Will Miguel Cotto be Manny Pacquiao's opponent in June? (Photo by Patrick McDermott/Getty Images)
The Philippine Star reports that Manny Pacquiao has made his choice for his upcoming fight in June, but we don't get to find out who it is yet.
Bob Arum isn't revealing boxing's latest mystery man yet:
"Yes, he has made the choice. But I’m not gonna talk about it. Now I’m going back and let’s see if we can make what Manny wants to happen. We need to be sure everything is secure and that things are done the way they should be done."
But the Star also says that Manny's wife Jinkee recently said it would be Miguel Cotto, which has been the floating rumor. If it IS Cotto, keeping it quiet isn't a surprise, and Arum isn't just delaying an announcement for kicks. There are also reports that Cotto is negotiating for a fight with Canelo Alvarez. Arum wouldn't want to announce that Manny has chosen Miguel Cotto, and at the same time risk looking bad if Cotto decides to fight Alvarez instead.
Arum is also still letting the Pacquiao vs Mayweather flames be fanned, but that's probably a dead issue at this point for any purpose besides keeping some attention on both fighters.

fuck it.
Let this be a Final four. Pac vs cotto and Alvarez vs Mayweather. But we all know after these fights its more likely Pac vs. Bradley and Floyd vs winner Berto/ortiz. SAME SHIT DIFFERENT PILE.

No offense.. but I think we can throw away anything that comes from the Philippine Star with not only a grain of salt but also a laugh and chuckle…
OMG!!!! Manny knows who is going to fight already… but will keep it a secret… eh…

Manny can fight whoever the hell he wants, but please don’t let him fuck up Cotto-Alvarez.

So Manny’s just gonna fight retreads now. I look forward to Manny vs. Morales IV, Manny vs. Hatton II and Manny vs. Marquez XXII. Maybe once they’ve run that gauntlet they can talk Lehlo Ledwaba out of retirement and we can see that one again.
Manny has fully jumped the shark.

I think Arum is the one to blame, if this is true. Apparently, Arum doesn’t want any of his younger welterweights to take on Pacquiao or any other threat outside of TR either. Once again, if this is true, what Manny wants in a fight (telling the press that he wants Floyd) doesn’t mean shit to Arum.

Guess they’ll wait till Floyd confirms an opponent for his fight, then they can say “look! Mayweather is fighting someone else! We had to fight Cotto!”

They’re both doing the same thing. Neither is announcing their opponent but Floyd is compelled to do so as his re-sentencing is contingent in his fighting in May.
My guess is that Floyd knew who he was planning to fight in May for some time now and that preliminary negotiation and arrangements transpired with his and other camps. The same is clearly the case with TR/Pacquiao, who by all indications have had a pretty clear idea of who there’d planning to fight.
Since no negotiations have taken place, we know they are not fighting each other
