Ending the incredible speculation about just who represents Floyd Mayweather Jr in matters of fight negotiations, the fighter took to Twitter this evening to name the men that Bob Arum is supposed to call to negotiate a fight. Get ready, guys and gals. It's shocking.
Whoooa. No waaay. Can't believe it's Richard Schaefer and Al Haymon. Maaan. That's out of left field.
The truth is, Arum has known who to call. This just makes it 100% official that yes, Golden Boy and Schaefer would be involved. Mayweather says he has his guarantee. He says he's ready. He's called Arum's final bluff.

Can Bob come up with some other way to avoid the May 5 fight? Of course he can! He's a pretty smart guy, though some don't feel that way.

Remember, he's said that he'll do it at the MGM Grand, even though he wants that temporary stadium. But he has not said he'll do it on May 5 -- he has offered late May, and it seems as though Floyd is saying what I've suspected before: That the May 5 date is locked in, and can't be changed. Mayweather got his jail time pushed back until June 1, and his judge did that in part, she said, to give him time to heal any injuries, such as cuts.
This has definitely been the most productive round of what passes for negotiations between these two, at least in terms of people calling each other out and trying to look good for the media. But I can't say I feel that anything significant has really happened, either. That's why I'm not convinced that putting it off and waiting for November is going to be any better. We've done all of this, which seems like a lot because it's a lot of chatter, an still the two parties have not sat down at a table or even on the phone to really, truly discuss the fight.

Well color me surprised.
Not really, though I love the way Oscar is trying to start some kind of twitter campaign that is hilariously not working.

right now seems taht floyd really wants the fight, and arum is desperately looking for a big excuse to change that point of view, but the time is running and people is getting tired, for me pacquiao since his fight with cotto, he dissapointed a lot, i mean that arum continue choosing fighters that people don’t want to see, all those fights: clottey, mosley, margarito, awful fights
EL CIERTO (VEN) - January 17, 2012
Follow up Floyd Tweet: “January 16th was Dr. Martin Luther King Birthday January 17th is Muhammad Ali Birthday and May 5th is Pacquiao ass whooping day”
Classic.
Waldo Rastel - January 17, 2012
“Classic” is stretching it. It follows no pattern. He just said some things. He might as well have said “December 25 is Christmas. February 14 is Valentine’s Day. Fuck Manny Pacquiao.”
Scott Christ - January 17, 2012
Well its classic Floyd. It’s smack talking but it fails to make any sense.
Waldo Rastel - January 17, 2012
And if don’t make sense, it don’t make dollars…or something like that.

Scott Christ - January 17, 2012
actually
The more I think about Floyd saying, "December 25 is Christmas. February 14 is Valentine’s Day. Fuck Manny Pacquiao," the more I laugh.
Scott Christ - January 17, 2012
You should give him a call on his money phone.

I just snorted my coffee all over my desk!

Roses are red, violets are blue, Arum is fat and old. #fakeFMJtweets

I am amazed at how Floyd used to basically never speak publically like this about wanting the fight. Now he can’t shut up about it.
Kory Kitchen - January 17, 2012
cause now that Pacquiao looked awful against Marquez, its Money Time
dasilversurfer - January 17, 2012
I honestly think Pac looking ordinary against Mosley and Marquez is a good part of it.
Kory Kitchen - January 17, 2012
+1
How frightened could he really be of Pacquiao at this point? He’s been neutralized pretty effectively two fights in a row (different reasons in each case). I have no reason to believe that Floyd won’t do the same.
Sammlung - January 17, 2012
I don't think he was ever frightened of him.
Craig111 - January 17, 2012
What will Bob Arum's next excuse be?
I mean, he’s run out of them right? He cant possibly not allow his surrogate son Manny to fight Mayweather. Arum knows he will lose so he’s been desperate trying to get the most money of this. But the excuses and delay tactics are running out and MP’s image is taking a huge beating.
dasilversurfer - January 17, 2012
His excuse will be May 5. Like its some kinda surprise. Mayweather called out Pacquiao when he scheduled the date.
RRod806 - January 17, 2012 via iPhone app
Now remember. He called out the “little fella” according to Ellerbe. His identity is TBA.

THE FOURTH FIGHT THAT EVERYBODY WANTS, CAN THE X-WEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION MORALES LEVEL THE SCORE WITH Y-WEIGHT UNIVERSE CHAMPION PACQUIAO? WHO R U PICKIN?

Ah yes. I musta forgot
RRod806 - January 17, 2012 via iPhone app
the weird thing...
…is that Floyd has a blackberry. Pegged him as an iPhone or android guy.
Sentimental - January 17, 2012 via iPhone app
I was just going to say something along those lines!
Day 10 of “negotiations” we learn that Floyd Mayweather uses a blackberry. The biggest news story to break out so far.
Dafs - January 17, 2012
It seems about right to me. Floyd’s not really a guy who strikes me as being “current,” or concerned with tech trends or keeping up with that shit. I bet he’s a plasma TV guy, too.
Scott Christ - January 17, 2012
Didn’t he have a diamond encrusted iPhone? I recall a picture of yes man 50 Cent and FMJ himself flaunting it on some private jet, as you do.
Dafs - January 17, 2012
Maybe he just has that for the diamond encrusting.
Scott Christ - January 17, 2012
Diamond screen and shell seemed smart, but the diamond antenna was a bit of a problem from a technical standpoint.

He did have iphones but
He gave them to his kids and couldn’t get them back.
He tried though, bless his heart.

This fight might actually be made
But it is a long way from being done….
As of 6:00 PM EST this afternoon, the only direct correspondence with TR was a text earlier today from Floyd (the first in over a week) asking TdB to call him and….exchange email addresses…which they did after exchanging a few light comments back and forth .
So there is light. And definite interest.
Interest so great that when I asked if Manny and/or Cotto had definitive plans, the answer was ’not until Manny is sorted out". The implication was clear. Manny has options (the best financial options being Cotto and/or Marquez) but nothing is being set for the opthers until this fight is fully explored.
Now let’s see if and how negotiations ensue. I say if because public posturing (something Floyd and Arum do constantly) is not how TdB likes to conduct business. He gets Floyd’s doing it but frankly wishes that Arum wouldn’t talk so much for a variety of reasons; the foremost being letting the other party know their strategy.
So if Arum talks too much for your sake…you are not alone. I think it is fair to assume that when the Arum retires and the company is succeeded by his younger executives, the days of public promotion a la arum and King may be over. That will make a lot of people thrilled beyond belief but for those of us who have watched a generation of carnival-like barkers ‘talk’ publicly to promote, it will be different for sure.
Far more corporate.
pakinpower - January 18, 2012
I am still sticking with November BTW
pakinpower - January 18, 2012
the most significant about this for me is as i said in a previous post is that finally mayweather seems like he really wants the fight and either theyre geniuses and it has already been done for may 5th and theyre hyping it up but saying its not or it will happen in november and floyd knows this, because its becoming clear that now is the time for floyd and we all know pac wants the fight but it is in arum’s hands and he is running out of excuses not to make this fight ykno?
sparky_mufc - January 18, 2012
It takes a brave man to tweet
Let’s see if and how he negotiates
