Rico Ramos faces Guillermo Rigondeaux in the main event of tonight's ShoBox broadcast. (Photo by Tom Casino/Showtime)
Tonight at 11 p.m. EST on Showtime, Rico Ramos will defend his WBA super bantamweight title in the main event of a ShoBox triple-header from the Palms in Las Vegas. We'll be here with round-by-round coverage and live results of the full card.
Ramos (20-0, 11 KO) and Rigondeaux (8-0, 6 KO) may not be a big-time marquee fight, but it's a significant fight at 122 pounds at any rate, and the winner will have a good argument for being the firm and clear No. 2 in the division, slotting in behind Toshiaki Nishioka of Japan.
In the first undercard bout of the night, super flyweights Matthew Villanueva (6-0-1, 6 KO) and Michael Ruiz Jr (8-1-1, 3 KO) will go to work in an eight-round fight. The sandwich bout is also an eight-rounder, pitting intriguing 19-year-old prospect Joel Diaz (6-0, 5 KO) against Guy Robb (7-0, 3 KO) in a super featherweight bout.
Join us this evening!

A lot of high KO rates from these dudes. Good chance for action?
battle axe of doom - January 20, 2012 via mobile
Diaz can bring some heat. I don’t know much about the other guys on the undercard. But Diaz is worth a look for sure.
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
You know what… maybe this become a hidden classic… ala Katsidis/Casamayor……
Oh ok… I need to stop drinking…. it is not even fight time yet… I think that is the only way I will get thru the fight.
Zocalo - January 20, 2012
Evening folks
Verklemptomaniac - January 20, 2012
Here we go.
schraubd - January 20, 2012
Can’t wait for the main event between Rick Ramos and Guillermo Rigendow
schraubd - January 20, 2012
Well, I'll backtrack slightly
They keep saying Rigen-DOW, but I thought it was pronounced Rigen-DEE-ow. Am I wrong?
schraubd - January 20, 2012
You’re not wrong. On ESPN he’s Riggin-doe.
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
I TO like to call him Riggin-doe
Duan - January 20, 2012
He is just known as the guy from the oppressive regime.
Zocalo - January 20, 2012
Like!
schraubd - January 20, 2012
Good evening all. I really can’t believe I stayed up for this one.
Duan - January 20, 2012
Judging by the quality of the broadcast so far, I can’t believe anyone did
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
HA
Verklemptomaniac - January 20, 2012
Hahahahahahahaha
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Rough start for the Showtime team tonight. Oy.
schraubd - January 20, 2012
that was pretty brutal
Matt Miller - January 20, 2012
Ah shit…
Zocalo - January 20, 2012
“Tonight we’re gonna take inside the mind of a judge… yeah… shit.” wanders off
Verklemptomaniac - January 20, 2012
that was funny with the mind of the judge. i like the idea too. we’ll see if it works out.
with him and ward, it’s gettin crowded in the booth…
jake_ash - January 20, 2012
That was pretty embarrassing. But might have said more about the judging than his actual statement was suppose to say.
tacklerford - January 20, 2012 via iPhone app
Good evening Bad Left Hook. How's it going?
Matt Miller - January 20, 2012
It is interesting thus far…
Zocalo - January 20, 2012
I DVRd the Freddy Roach thing, looking forward to that later
Matt Miller - January 20, 2012
Not so good for the Showtime production crew.
Verklemptomaniac - January 20, 2012
that's for sure
Matt Miller - January 20, 2012
YAY RUSS MORA!
Sam5001 - January 20, 2012
You know what?
They said they’d let him work his way up on lower level fights. How are we supposed to know if he’s recovered unless we see him a few times?
schraubd - January 20, 2012
Yeah. Wasn’t saying its bad he’s officiating this fight. I guess this is the first time we’ve seen him on TV since that night.
Sam5001 - January 20, 2012
Also, Russell Mora looks like a Latino Rick Perry with far, far worse hair.
schraubd - January 20, 2012
I'm flying with Panamanian rum and blended ice and fruit drinks this evening myself.
Matt Miller - January 20, 2012
with the umbrella too?
jake_ash - January 20, 2012
I do have drink umbrellas in the cupboard, but I didn't bust those bad boys out for Showbox
Matt Miller - January 20, 2012
Yeah, unlike Showtime, you don’t see the need to overdo it for a ShoBox broadcast with five guys and three mics.
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
I fucking love this whole announcing crew actually. Would turn in just to hear Farhood and Bernstein banter probably.
Matt Miller - January 20, 2012
I think it would be best off if they stuck with those two for ShoBox. Not that I mind Tarver (or Ward, who I think is excellent)
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Yes, Russell Mora.
ANYTHING BELOW THAT LINE IS, IN FACT, A FOUL. THANK YOU FOR NOTICING.
Verklemptomaniac - January 20, 2012
I’m seriously dying over here after the Giampa debut. Holy Shockmaster.
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Hard to watch.
BoxAnne - January 20, 2012
you know Lederman is somewhere busting out laughing
DPlainview - January 20, 2012
Yeah. I already got my money’s worth
tacklerford - January 20, 2012 via iPhone app
That ruled. Still cant believe that happened

Villanueva vs Ruiz Round 1
Villanueva the guy moving forward. Ruiz, as Farhood says, is a cute. Villanueva with a good left hook, and another one with about 45 seconds left in the round. Ruiz is doing a good job avoiding punches. Ruiz slipping punches very nicely, but not landing a whole lot. Fight picked up in the latter half of the round.
Villanueva 10-9
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Villanueva 10-9. Bit of a tough round, both had there moments, nothing too wild happened.
schraubd - January 20, 2012
wonder how tarver feels about ward being there
jake_ash - January 20, 2012
Perhaps hopeful that next time they won’t make him come to a show for no real reason.
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Golly, that ws a nice series of punches.
BoxAnne - January 20, 2012
Ruiz is on the verge of getting stopped
schraubd - January 20, 2012
I guess that’s where cute will get you.
BoxAnne - January 20, 2012
Villanueva vs Ruiz Round 2
Villanueva starting with some big charges this round. Good shots with both hands. Ward offers the incredible insight, “You can see that Villanueva’s hands are heavy. Maybe that’s where the knockouts come from.” Perhaps, yes!
Ruiz is getting tagged in there this round. BIG rights! REALLY clean one shakes the hell out of Ruiz, and he’s desperately hanging on. A minute to go in the round and Ruiz is in a bad way. Left hook to the body from Villanueva. Another right hand. And another! And down goes Michael Ruiz!
He’s getting creamed now. He can’t hold Villanueva off, and Villanueva appears to have the quicker as well as heavier hands. Ruiz is lost. Another right when we come back. Ruiz trying his best to stay out of there, but he’s not going to last a lot longer if this keeps up. Escapes the round, but that’s about all he does.
Villanueva 10-8
Villanueva 20-17
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
10-8, 20-17 Villanueva. He was just plastering Ruiz that round.
schraubd - January 20, 2012
Villanueva turns on the punch machine
Matt Miller - January 20, 2012
Ruiz just contemptuous of Ruiz posing any danger.
Verklemptomaniac - January 20, 2012
Chuck Giampa trending on Twitter. Outstanding.
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
i googled him and the first couple of results weren’t pretty.
him having chavez ahead of whitaker on the card going into 12th…
jake_ash - January 20, 2012
Yeah….They should get this lad out of there. He’s eating a lot of very clean shots
Duan - January 20, 2012
Ruiz has the right idea trying to land in between, and is even connecting some of the time, but he just doesnt have the pop to really trouble Villanueva
schraubd - January 20, 2012
Well, Mora’s been invisible so far, that’s something.
BoxAnne - January 20, 2012
SETH MITCHELL VS BABY JOE MESI MAKE IT HAPPIN PEEPZ GET HIM OUT OF THE OFFICE AND BACK IN THE RING
briggzy - January 20, 2012

Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Villanueva vs Ruiz round 3
Left hook from Villanueva. Ruiz trying to counter, but Villanueva clearly has no regard for his power or anything. Ruiz landing more this round. Doing better. Villanueva not going out of his way to be stupid or anything, either. Nice to see.
Villanueva with a right hand. Villanueva imposing his will again in the final minute, and he’s landing some good body shots there too.
Villanueva 10-9
Villanueva 30-26
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
10-9 Villanueva, 30-26 same. But Ruiz did at least steady himself that round.
schraubd - January 20, 2012
Villanueva vs Ruiz Round 4
Villanueva has this fully under control. Ruiz is really looking for a way to get into this fight, but he’s having an awful time with the matchup. Villanueva too big, too strong, and a good offensive boxer overall, too. Not just brute strength. Puts punches together well, doesn’t get overly reckless. Willing to counter as well as lead.
Ruiz is hanging in there. Decent fight.
Villanueva 10-9
Villanueva 40-35
Hahahahaha – fake Gus commentary on the terrible Ortiz-Berto promo.
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Villanueva 10-9, 40-35 same. The problem is even when Ruiz is doing “well”, he’s still losing
schraubd - January 20, 2012
bingo
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Did I just glimpse a ballet-ishtutu on that round card girl? Odd
BoxAnne - January 20, 2012
You know how they say some people have a face built for radio? Giampa has a vocal presence built for silent movies.
Verklemptomaniac - January 20, 2012
unfortunately, yes.
BoxAnne - January 20, 2012
Yep.
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Villanueva vs Ruiz Round 5
YES LET’S GO TO CHUCK GIAMPA
Ruiz landing a few but Villanueva still mostly controlling. Villanueva does leave himself open when he throws in combination, and I mean really leaves himself open. Right hand from Villanueva, hook after. Ruiz was having a little success this round but Villanueva is taking it in the final minute it appears. Ruiz misses a home run left hand.
Villanueva 10-9
Villanueva 50-44
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Gus johnson is an abomination
battle axe of doom - January 20, 2012 via mobile
he’s better than Giampa.
BoxAnne - January 20, 2012
10-9, 50-44 Villanueva
schraubd - January 20, 2012
Villanueva vs Ruiz Round 6
This is rinse, repeat at this point. Ruiz is really working his ass off to stay in this fight and is trying to win, but he’s just the lesser fighter.
Villanueva 10-9
Villanueva 60-53
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Yeah, both men are trying, but Ramos doesn't have enough punch to make this an interesting fight
Matt Miller - January 20, 2012
10-9, 60-53 Villanueva
schraubd - January 20, 2012
Good stoppage
Sam5001 - January 20, 2012
Villanueva vs Ruiz Round 7
Villanueva going for the KO in the first minute of this round. He’s really destroying him. Mora looking closely, and he steps in. Ruiz was throwing, but he doesn’t complain about the stoppage. He was getting battered.
Matthew Villanueva TKO-7
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Good job by Russell Mora in this fight.
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Never thought I'd see THAT sentence written in earnest...
Patrick L. Stumberg - January 20, 2012
Fair’s fair. He was totally invisible and made the right stoppage.
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Good stoppage
Matt Miller - January 20, 2012
Mora does something right!!!
BoxAnne - January 20, 2012
Very disappointing
round card girls. Who designed those outfits…Lasy Gaga?
FrankinDallas - January 20, 2012
Very weird.
BoxAnne - January 20, 2012
lazy gaga?
jake_ash - January 20, 2012
typo….meant Lady…but she might be lazy.
FrankinDallas - January 20, 2012
Too bad for Ruiz, he’s got the moves, but he’s way too physically weak.
BoxAnne - January 20, 2012
yeah, he's never going to do anything with his physique and lack of strength
Matt Miller - January 20, 2012
yeah good stoppage thought mora did a fine job

Diaz vs Robb Round 1
Diaz really has a lot of talent. Very much looking forward to see what happens here. Robb isn’t a total pushover by any means.
Diaz with a right. Robb trying to work in cautiously from outside. Heads come together, but they go through it. Right hand from Diaz. Robb trying to get to the body, and boy, he’s showing his superior ability early. Robb might have to just go for broke.
Well, they’re fighting. Diaz with a left hook and a right hand. He looks quicker and stronger. Man, for a 19-year-old kid, Diaz has some huge arms for 130ish pounds. Looks like he’ll develop into a big, strong lightweight or 140.
Diaz 10-9
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
Diaz 10-9. Fun round.
schraubd - January 20, 2012
diaz a little sharper
DPlainview - January 20, 2012
I like these two. Fun round.
Matt Miller - January 20, 2012
Robb might have to get lucky. Diaz the better boxer. good fight so far.
BoxAnne - January 20, 2012
agree, but
it’s the sort of fight with a lot of potential for Robb to get lucky, because they’re both standing in and hammering away.

Diaz vs Robb Round 2
This is a nice matchup so far. Diaz throwing his left more to start this round. Robb BIG RIGHT HAND AND DIAZ IS DOWN! He can shake his head but he’s wobbly as all hell. Oh my!
Diaz with a right hand now! Robb trying to bully him. Hell yeah this is a fight. ANOTHER good right from Diaz. Diaz blowing his nose or something briefly. Robb just WINGING shots to the body now. Diaz backing down. Uppercut Robb, Diaz throws another right hand.
Oh doctor, we got us a good fight. Diaz RIPPING with right hands and he hurts Robb, but Robb survives and rips back to the body! RIght hand Diaz! Goddamn yes.
LEFT HOOK by Diaz catches Robb. Right hand Diaz. Goddamn! Goddamn! Diaz came back so well in this round I’m going 10-9.
Robb 10-9
19-19
Scott Christ - January 20, 2012
10-8, 29-28 Robb. Excellent round, more of that please.
schraubd - January 20, 2012

DPlainview - January 21, 2012
No, it can’t.
BoxAnne - January 21, 2012
Diaz vs Robb Round 3
Big right hand from Diaz! Now he’s pouring it on! Robb takes a knee! Here we go again as Robb comes back. Diaz with some body work. Diaz calming himself down. Robb to the body. Left hook from Robb, but not a lot on it. Right hand from Diaz has some mustard.
HUGE right from Diaz hurts Robb badly! Robb retreating! Diaz laying it on now! Drakulich getting close — Robb slips to the mat. They’re calling it a knockdown. Goddamn it. It wasn’t as far as I could tell.
Robb fighting crazy now. LEFT HOOK DIAZ! Robb survives the round and lands a left hook at the bell.
Diaz 10-8
Diaz 29-27
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
10-7 (2nd KD looked shaky though), 28-26 Diaz
schraubd - January 21, 2012

DPlainview - January 21, 2012

Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
Probably FOTY so far for this young season.
Matt Miller - January 21, 2012
No question it’s early FotY.
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
Yeah, I said that with hesitance because I don't follow the Asian boxing scene very closely.
And it seems I am always forgetting some fight over there.
Matt Miller - January 21, 2012
If Robb wins this, it’s credit to his body work. That’s what’s keeping the playing field level
schraubd - January 21, 2012
yeah, he’s been ripping that body hard
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
Diaz vs Robb Round 4
GUY ROBB COMING OUT FAST! I expected Diaz to come out! Robb with two big left hooks! He’s got Diaz on the ropes, and now they’re broken up. Man Robb is pressing him big time to start this round. Robb with body work. Robb putting him on the ropes constantly. Big hook from Diaz off the ropes!
Robb with a nasty shot to the body. Diaz is tiring a bit. He’s had all of 10 rounds before this fight. Right hand Robb. Right hand Diaz, and he storms with a combo! Right hand Diaz stings him! Both bloodied. Robb with a left hand! Diaz with a right!
Holy shit this fight rules.
Robb 10-9
Diaz 38-37
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
Diaz throws mean combinations
Sam5001 - January 21, 2012
Robb 10-9, 38-37 Diaz (I think — my math is shaky)
schraubd - January 21, 2012
Great fight… all I ask is for guys to let their hands go… and god bless them… they are doing that.
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
my stream took an absolute shit on me
i gotta wait til comcast airs it out here at 11..
Eddie Gonzalez - January 21, 2012
Diaz vs Robb Round 5
Left hook Diaz but Robb is POURING IT ON with the body shots and left hooks of his own. Diaz is reeling a little bit. He’s really tired. He might still have enough power to close this thing at some point, but right now Guy Robb looks stronger.
Robb willing this round like he did the last. Sneaky right from Diaz catches Robb. Nick this round to Robb, but could have gone to Diaz. Just feel like Robb’s pressure pushes him.
Robb 10-9
47-47
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
10-9, 48-46 Diaz
schraubd - January 21, 2012
There is something to be said when you are able to back up a fighter when your face is torn to shit that just makes you lean towards giving him a round.
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
I;m worried that bad KD in the 3rd is going to be decisive on the cards
schraubd - January 21, 2012
that would suck
Matt Miller - January 21, 2012
man
me too… was an obvious slip
Eddie Gonzalez - January 21, 2012
Diaz vs Robb Round 6
BIG RIGHT HAND BY GUY ROBB AS THE ROUND STARTS! They’re winging again! They are just drilling each other now. Diaz landing hard shots, but Robb starting to absorb them much better than earlier. Diaz’s power has faded.
Left hook from Robb. Diaz with a left hook moments later. Robb is dictating this fight right now. Right hand Diaz. Fight has slowed down a bit this round. still a good round.
Robb 10-9
Robb 57-56
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
Robb 10-9, 57-56 Diaz
schraubd - January 21, 2012

They’re weird, but sort of cute.
BoxAnne - January 21, 2012
BAD
Sam5001 - January 21, 2012
Diaz vs Robb Round 7
Man this is just a grueling battle now. I’m actually impressed by how much conditioning Diaz IS showing, all things considered. And ring awareness.
Diaz with a nice combo off the ropes with about a minute left. Robb is losing his way. Diaz flurrying in a big way! DRAKULICH STOPS THE FIGHT? WHAT?! WHAT?!
Joel Diaz TKO-7
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
Diaz with some good work there, but a bit early on that stoppage methnks
Matt Miller - January 21, 2012
a little quick, but big complaints from RObb
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
no complaints
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
Less than thrilled about that stoppage.
schraubd - January 21, 2012
I thought it was fair
Duan - January 21, 2012
Can't say I agree with that one...
Patrick L. Stumberg - January 21, 2012
Bit early, but not horrendously so.
Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
Hah! i did think Diaz would take it, though I had my doubts in the middle.
BoxAnne - January 21, 2012
great fight. great heart by both guys. they aren’t young fighters anymore. stoppage seemed a bit early
jake_ash - January 21, 2012
We can’t have nice things. Great fight.
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
If the next fight has 1/20th of the action of this fight… well then tonight will be a good fight.
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
WTF?!!?!?!?!?!?
fuck boxing… smh
Eddie Gonzalez - January 21, 2012
That stop seemed early, but there was a lot of damage done. I’m not upset by it.
BoxAnne - January 21, 2012
Same thing, and he wasn’t complaining about it.
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
good test for diaz
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
I thought Robb looked worse in round 3 than when he stopped it, but definitely took a lot of punches throughout the fight. Would’ve liked to have seen Robb having a chance to stay in there.
Sam5001 - January 21, 2012
Maybe he saw something we didn't. Robb didn't complain.
Matt Miller - January 21, 2012
It was fine. They’re young pros. Let him fight another day.
Duan - January 21, 2012
Rgondeaux up next?
FrontHandMan - January 21, 2012
yes
Matt Miller - January 21, 2012
Giampa is terrible. He can’t speak.
Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
Get a English translator…hahaha
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
Rig's left hook to the body is meaaaan.
FrontHandMan - January 21, 2012
Not a Rigondeaux fan. Rooting for Ramos for sure.
Matt Miller - January 21, 2012
OK, this has far exceeded expectations so far. Please don’t screw it up main eventers.
Duan - January 21, 2012
I’m trying to prepare myself to be happy with the night as it was in the first two fights. I still have very low hopes for the main event. Not a fan of either guy, really.
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
The second fight was the night for me. Can’t expect miracles, unless you thrive on disappointment.
BoxAnne - January 21, 2012
It is kinda funny… the more I see Rigodeaux, the more I appreciate old man Casamayor when he was younger.
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
You got to lower your expectations as a boxing fan nowadays to be happy… so if there is one half decent exchange per round… I will be happy
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
Fuck that. I’ll be happy with good fights. I’ll not be happy with bad fights. I don’t have to lower my expectations. I don’t owe anyone that. If they give me bad fights, I’m calling it a bad fight.
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
I’m not a fan of watching either guy really, but I think Rigondeaux will rip him to shreds. Don’t rate Ramos at all.
Duan - January 21, 2012
Ramos is lucky he won a belt.
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
We’ll find out tonight………………..expecting Rigo to shine
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
Oh good, we’re announcing that Floyd Mayweather is here. Not showing him or anything.

Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
quick, trademark that phrase…..
jake_ash - January 21, 2012
Rigo aggressive
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
yes sir
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
Cortez gave Ramos an additional 3-4 seconds there.
Sam5001 - January 21, 2012
I think.
Sam5001 - January 21, 2012
Ala the Montreal ref…
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
yep
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
Ramos vs Rigondeaux Round 1
Rigondeaux coming out faster than expected, throwing a wild left hand. He looks locked in mentally. Right hand Ramos is a bit short, and he eats a left hand counter down the pipe. That was lightning coming back.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but Ramos looks a little intimidated to my eye.
Ramos not doing much of anything. Rigondeaux isn’t either, to be fair, but what he’s throwing looks more harmful and serious. Left hand by Rigondeauxl and another AND RICO RAMOS IS DOWN! 30 seconds left in the round. Cortez waits forever to get Rigondeaux to move two feet.
Rigondeaux coming at him again, just WINGING LEFT HANDS! Rigondeaux absolutely giong for the kill.
Rigondeaux 10-8
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
10-8 Rigandeaux. This is the happy-making RIgandeaux. He really has the talent to do this.
schraubd - January 21, 2012
Well where was that all this time?
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
The de-classing has begun much earlier than I expected.
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
10-8 Rigo
I like aggressive Rigo
Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
Has anyone been able to discern a Ramos strategy yet? This is pathetic, and I don’t throw that word around lightly.
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
And speaking of pathetic, Pete Rose!
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
Ramos vs Rigondeaux Round 2
Ramos looks exactly as he did against Shimoda, except Rigondeaux isn’t as interesting or exciting as Shimoda. Ramos looks like a guy lucky to be here.
Ramos is doing nothing. Rigondeaux also did very little. Round stunk.
Rigondeaux 10-9
Rigondeaux 20-17
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
Well that is the type of round I expected.
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
Rigandeauz 10-9, 20-18. What have we learned so far?
1) Rigandeaux can be a dominant, exciting fighter who presses the action when he wants to.
2) He doesn’t always want to.
schraubd - January 21, 2012
20-17
schraubd - January 21, 2012
10-9 Rigo, 20-17
I spoke too soon. That’s the Rigo we know and are incredibly apathetic about.
Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
Rigo truly “plays to the score,” to quote a baseball phrase. If Ramos isn’t going to be aggressive, the fight is going to continue to be a fairly boring 1-0 style shutout.
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
agreed
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
yes indeed
I really don’t want to watch 9 rounds of awkward fencing.
Duan - January 21, 2012
Good Olympic comparison. I really do believe in Rigo, but he is the permanent b-side. Without someone pressing him…you get this.
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
When people open up and have a go, he tends to look fantastic. But, if people are just happy to survive in there with him, this is what you get alright.
Duan - January 21, 2012
Ramos vs Rigondeaux Round 3
Ugh, Ramos is a mental trainwreck. He’s got no confidence. He does nothing.
Two lefts to the body from Rigondeaux. Ramos drew commentary praise a couple minutes ago for daring to throw a right hand.
Rigondeaux 10-9
Rigondeaux 30-27
Fight sucks as I expected. Crowd has turned.
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
Rigandeauz 10-9, 30-26. I miss Rd 1 RIgandeaux
schraubd - January 21, 2012
this is a pathetic defense by Ramos
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
At least Buster Douglas was knocked out at this point.#
#actually loves Buster Douglas.
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
10-9 Rigo, 30-26
Rigo throws a lovely straight punch to the body. The problem is that he throws two per round, and not much else.
Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
Teon Kennedy just remarked that this is a “bullshit as(s) fight”
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
I thought Ramos would work harder than this
Matt Miller - January 21, 2012
Hey look! Ramos decided to throw a jab instead of walking around!
Sam5001 - January 21, 2012
Ramos vs Rigondeaux Round 4
Ugh. Still a lousy fight. Ramos throws a punch now and then and it’s news. Not a real punch, with intent, but any punch. Rigondeaux is just better than him, and it’s not close.
Well, there’s a right hand from Ramos, kind of. This is like Rigondeaux in a Lazy River. He’s having a fun vacation and he’ll leave with some souvenirs.
Rigondeaux 10-9
Rigondeaux 40-35
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
Rigandeaux 10-9, 40-35 same
schraubd - January 21, 2012
Was Joe Cortez actually talking about headbutts in a patch of the fight where the two were 5 feet apart? I think he’s getting bored. That’s scary.
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
About to take some NyQuil. Wonder what’s gonna put me to sleep first?
Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
I want to see Rigo against world class competition asap.
Tysox88 - January 21, 2012
Rigandeaux is doing enough that, if Ramos would meet him halfway, we’d hasve a tolerable fight. But Ramos is doing NOTHING, and Rigandeaux isn;t pressing the issue.
schraubd - January 21, 2012
Ramos vs Rigondeaux Round 5
They keep saying that ramos started like this against shimoda as if that inspires hope. Ramos got a lucky KO against Shimoda. That’s basically all he did in that fight. This sucks.
Rigondeaux 10-9
Rigondeauz 50-44
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
Rigandeaux 10-9,50-44
schraubd - January 21, 2012
This is like Aliens vs. Predators
Whoever wins, we lose.
Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
Predators was a pretty good movie… by the way… let me check if it is on HBO.
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
It was fun
Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
?he’s slowing down?………………how, his 20 punch a rd output
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
show more of the ring card girl
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
wicked body shot
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
Jinx.
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
Wicked body shot.
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
thank GOD
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
Ramos is done.He doesn’t want to be there anymore.
Sam5001 - January 21, 2012
Ramos vs Rigondeaux Round 6
Apparently a headbutt and Ramos is all “ow damn” and blinking. oh rabbit punch I guess. Anyway, Rigondeaux tires of this and flattens Ramos with an enormous left to the body. Ramos makes zero attempt to get up.
Guillermo Rigondeaux KO-6
Scott Christ - January 21, 2012
Rigo can just impose his will on fighters, he just needs a mean streak.
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
What Rigo needs is a dash of Joel Casamayor in him.
schraubd - January 21, 2012
Welp
Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
Right, can we not see Ramos on tv again. Nice one
Duan - January 21, 2012
You won’t for a bit, unless you’re a Solo Boxeo viewer. (And I do often love Solo Boxeo.)
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
Ramos is an Al Haymon fighter (I’m pretty sure). We’ll see him on TV again.
Sam5001 - January 21, 2012
that is for damn sure… I am surprised that he Rigo actually got this fight to tell you the truth because of Al.
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
that’s the way to make a statement
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
Rigandeaux will close a guy out when he senses weakness. But he won’t create it himself.
schraubd - January 21, 2012
Wooohoo! It's over!
DanielAM - January 21, 2012
Like I said
His left to the body is from hell
FrontHandMan - January 21, 2012
Rigo must have the highest body shot ko% of all time
Tysox88 - January 21, 2012
Micky Ward?
Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
LIIIIIIIIIIIIIVER SHOT
Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
He really loads up on that left hand
DPlainview - January 21, 2012
I know Rigo is a hard fighter to become a fan of. I’m not really sure why I like him myself, except that it’s something in his skill set. But I will say that, as he steps up, someone with real talent will take the fight to him. And that will be one to watch.
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
Vs Donaire?
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
That would be something to see.
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
Ramos was holding his hands so high, he was just begging to be crushed to the body.
Verklemptomaniac - January 21, 2012
lets see rigondaux-donaire!
jake_ash - January 21, 2012
Rico Ramos Gameplan
Step 1: Wait for a counter punch and land a one punch knockout blow
Step 2: What? Step 1 didn’t work?
Sam5001 - January 21, 2012
Interview should be good… lets see if he speaks gibberish…
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
Rigo is well-spoken. A life spent largely with the headgear helps, honestly.
El Destruyo - January 21, 2012
Yeah… his accent isn’t bad at all.
Cubans has a nasty accent for Spanish speakers by the way.
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
what a horrible translator by the way…
Zocalo - January 21, 2012
Well. This fight had one good moment, apparently, and I had an attempted break-in downstairs apt., and had to go deal with it. All’s well, but I missed the KO.
BoxAnne - January 21, 2012
I came in just in time to miss everything. But at least I have the comments. They’re better than most fights anyway.
DrRck - January 21, 2012
Rigondeuax is very much hatian
FrontHandMan - January 21, 2012
