Tonight's ShoBox main event lived down to expectations in terms of excitement, but it had a memorable finish at least, as Cuba's Guillermo Rigondeaux improved to 9-0 (7 KO) with a body shot knockout of Rico Ramos (20-1, 11 KO), capturing the WBA super bantamweight title.
Rigondeaux put Ramos down in the first round, and if Ramos were checked in mentally coming in, he checked out right there. Ramos did nothing for the rest of the fight, throwing a grand total of 114 punches, and landing a whopping 15 of them for an amazing 13% connect rate.
If you combine this with Ramos' fairly fluky win over Akifumi Shimoda last July, I think it's clear that Ramos is really not ready for prime time, and may never be. He has no offensive drive, and if you put those fights together, I cannot recall someone looking as nervous or fearful of fighting as a "top fighter."
Ramos could stand to take a serious step back in competition. He's 24 and there's no rush to keep him at this level. He's obviously not fit to be here. He got lucky against Shimoda, and didn't get lucky against Rigondeaux.
For Rigondeaux, this is his first world title and puts him up near the top of the division. He was clearly Ramos' superior and had no trouble whatsoever. After the fight, Rigondeaux challenged Nonito Donaire for his next fight. Donaire will fight for the vacant WBO super bantamweight title on February 4, facing Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.

And is mentally challenged like Cintron. I guarantee he never wins a title again.

I’m just gonna say this: Rico Ramos is the shits to watch, and I really don’t think he’s one of the ten best super bantamweights in the world. I think with Shimoda we saw the one time out of ten that Ramos would beat him. Rigondeaux doesn’t make mistakes and made Ramos look like he had no business on this stage. Ramos was about as successful as Willie Casey in there.

I really liked Rigondeaux tonight… As a non english speaking 31 year old, it’s a shame nothing will really amount for him, but I like his style and you can definitely see it shining in on his defense. Taking into account that Saran Wrap could have probably lasted 6 rounds against Ramos in this fight, still pretty good defense. It’s true, he’s not really a mistake maker.

ramos should give back his purse…i mean dude throw an verage 9 punches and landed 3 per round…wtf..another al haymon creation..please do not show this guy anymore..shobox had one good fight then an excellent fight then the main event put me to sleep..should have switched the main event as the opening bout..congrats to rigo..he should fight the japanese champ next before he goes after nonito
