Today at 3 p.m. EST, live on Sky Sports from the United Kingdom, heavyweights David Price and John McDermott look to earn a shot at the British heavyweight championship currently held by Tyson Fury in the main event from Liverpool's Olympia.
Price (11-0, 9 KO) is a 28-year-old prospect, a towering 6'8" with terrific power and a more polished offensive game than the oft-compared Fury, who is younger, with less amateur experience, but seemingly a better chin. That is, as we have said leading up to this fight, the No. 1 concern for David Price today: If the worries over his chin are real, "Big Bad" John definitely has the thunder to put him down.
McDermott (26-7, 17 KO) isn't one of the most pleasant of fighters to look at, to say the least, but the chubby slugger can hold his own in a fight. Though he's lost four of his last five, he was very competitive in every one of those losses, including a decision nod that went to Fury on an absurd 98-92 score from referee Terry O'Connor back in September 2009. Many felt McDermott deserved that win. In his last bout, McDermott stopped Larry Olubamiwo in just 1:15, but that was nearly a year ago (February 2011).
There's no doubt David Price is the favorite -- I'm sure few are picking a McDermott upset. The real intrigue today comes from the fact that we're just one step away here from locking up a Fury vs Price fight, which is an intriguing matchup indeed.
Officials: Howard John Foster is your referee today, and scoring the fight will be Steve Gray, Phil Edwards, and the dreaded Dave Parris.

Right from the get-go, Power shows an incredible lack of fear of Satchell, who looks very game and not very bright. Couple of good shots from Satchell. Power waiting too much, has too little hand speed to counter as well as he’d like — Satchell sort of taking over in the second half of the round. They’re already stuck on a narrative that Power’s experience will prove too much. Maybe, but Satchell has done some very nice work.

Big shot and Power is down. He’s in a bad way, up at four. Power is just not any good at all anymore, it appears. Power charges in and is going for broke here, recklessly, while Satchell head hunts. Power recovering and surviving. Big right hand snaps Power’s head around. Satchell pouring it on again with about thirty seconds left – referee right there and ready to pounce. Another one hurts Power just before the bell. This became an ugly mismatch. Fight turned on a dime.

Needs to be said that there doesn’t appear to be a ton to Satchell, either. It’s not like he’s putting on some master class. He’s just putting it on a tough but at this point finished fighter and trying to get a bit of a name for himself. Good for him — at 6-0 beating a guy like Power would be quite a feather in the cap. Better than beating a guy who’s 2-40.
Power having a better round here, but still getting picked apart. That’s when you know it’s gone: When you appear to be boxing as well as you can but you’re still losing badly.

Right hand again. Power’s legs bend just a bit. I guess the referee is deciding to let this thing finish out. This really is it for Martin Power as anything other than an opponent. Power with an uppercut, little right hand and has Satchell on the ropes, where Satchell fires and lands a right hand. Power pushed back on a jab and then eats a right hand. Satchell landing off the ropes again. Right to the body by Satchell and Power gets on his bike. Backed into the corner with 30 seconds left, but Satchell more or less just lets him out. Another right hurts Power. Power’s body language is awful. Satchell winging shots. Another stiff right hand. Power will survive and nothing more.

Well, he hasn’t fought as many at a higher level, true, but Fury lost to McD in the first fight (in reality) and then took 9 rds to get him out of there in the rematch.
To be fair McD has been in some tough fights and is maybe a bit faded but then he looked destructive agaisnt Big Larry last time.
I will def be betting on Price against Fury.

Well, we’ll see what happens.
Fury’s garbage as far as talent goes, imo.
Just a big, tough, lummox who gets hit a lot, with admittedly a good jab. But Price can jab with him, at the very least.
Fury is tough but he’s getting hit way too much and nearly got KO’d twice last year.
That toughness will fade if he keeps getting tagged hard, imo.

One thing i’m pretty sure of with Fury,as they are saying now on Sky, is that he won’t avoid Price.
He could do, he could go chasing “world” title fights or the Euro belt, but if his track record is anything to go by, he doesn’t back down from anyone, which is a credit to him.

I was a bit harsh on Tyson there, i admit. He has a very good jab, good uppercut, can hit the body well and put his shots together into combination, but as has been said, he tends to fight dumb at times.
Even when he’s fully focused he’s not on Price’s level technically though, imo.

if you’ve got one, you know the game well. Add Price’s power and size and he’s almost got the whole package.
Of course there are questions about the chin, but personally i believe they will come later, at a higher level. I don’t think he will be too troubled at British title level, but i may be wrong.

Obviously pro fights have more rounds than amateurs but i honestly think Price probably fought better fighters and harder punchers in the ams than he will do in the pros, up to Euro level at least.
Guys like Roberto Cammarelle who stopped Price on his feet in the Olympic semis hit really hard.
