Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated and NBC Sports Network and Epix says on Twitter this evening that a fight between Amir Khan and Shane Mosley is possible. Khan is expected to return in April or May, possibly in the United Kingdom, and if he can't secure a rematch with Lamont Peterson, probably will go to 147 pounds and move on with his career.
Khan (26-2, 18 KO) is currently all tied up in the Peterson "scandal," which has him being threatened with a lawsuit by Mustafa Ameen (the "mystery man"). The WBA has ordered a rematch, but Peterson is appealing that, and Team Khan dropped their IBF appeal, so the IBF isn't going to order a rematch unless they go crazy.

I think I've probably made my feelings on Mosley (46-7-1, 39 KO) super clear at this point, but I'll go over them again for the non-regulars and the lookie-loos. I was, or am, a big Shane Mosley fan, but I have no desire to see him fight again. He has been miserably bad for three straight fights, he can't pull the trigger anymore, and he was booed out of the building in his loss to Manny Pacquiao.
I'm assuming some will feel he'd be a "good test" for Khan moving up to 147 pounds, but whatever. There are plenty of guys out there who would be a "good test" and they're actually able to uncork their hands these days. It's nothing against Shane Mosley the person, it's simply that Mosley is a shot fighter. For those who argue that the fights were against Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao where he looked really bad, don't forget the Sergio Mora debacle between. Even if you thought he should have gotten the W in that fight, as I did, his performance was excruciating.
So no, I have no real interest in seeing Khan vs Mosley, but it's the sort of fight I expect we'll see Mosley in next. It's better than matching him with Canelo Alvarez, I guess, since I already saw Canelo fight Kermit Cintron.

“Get Well Soon”, Khan
Kory Kitchen - January 22, 2012
At first when I thought of this fight I was little excited but then I remembered the Mosley I think about and the Mosley that fights today arnt the same. As you say Scott there are better tests for Khan at 147 but boxing business will use the rest of the shine thats on Mosleys name and put him with Khan. Unfortunalty the casual boxing fan will only remember the old Mosley as I did but wont think of the current version
sigidy - January 22, 2012
Obviously it’s just a rumor, but the idea would be to milk what’s left of Shane’s name. I get it, but Mosley isn’t any good anymore. At least they’re not trying to rematch MA Barrera, I guess.
Scott Christ - January 22, 2012
After he loses to Khan they will milk his name again just like they are now with the exact same argument they are using now.
His losses have only been to Mayweather, Pacquiao, and Khan! My God, that’s a murderer’s row!
Kory Kitchen - January 22, 2012
Someone will until it’s been too many and Shane turns into an old, black, potentially HOF-bound version of Rocky Juarez.
Scott Christ - January 22, 2012
Rocky Juarez will probably still be able to talk.
BoxAnne - January 22, 2012
I’ll never know, nobody asks him questions.
Scott Christ - January 22, 2012
right after I pushed “post,” I realized I’ve never heard Juarez say one word.
BoxAnne - January 22, 2012
Kellerman interviewed him after the Barrios fight, and I’m sure he’s been interviewed before. I don’t anticipate hearing him talk again.
Scott Christ - January 22, 2012
People on this very website have and will make this argument. I find it mind boggling.
Sammlung - January 22, 2012
making something of Shane's name?
why is that mind boggling? I find it very distasteful, but its happened before and will happen again, I guess. unless thats not what you were referring to….
BrianBrock - January 23, 2012
No that doesn’t surprise me at all! haha
I was referring to the fact that even fans argue that Mosley’s not washed up using Kory’s argument above:
His losses have only been to Mayweather, Pacquiao, and Khan! My God, that’s a murderer’s row!
Sammlung - January 23, 2012
Mosley is now a 4 round fighter. He should fight debuters!
cylee1180 - January 23, 2012
less said about the Barrera fight the better. While boxers try to stay around long after they should of there will always be promoters trying to sell them. This and a few other parts of this sport make you cringe. Some boxers are getting smarter with retirement but we are a long way off before we see them leave before its to late, if we ever see it at all.
If this was a prime or close to prime SSM would be a good fight while it lasted and Mosley got to Khans chin. But now its Khan shooting off combos and moving round while Shane thinks about hitting him back
sigidy - January 22, 2012
This is exactly how the fight would go……………excitement galore.
DPlainview - January 22, 2012
“Shane Mosley’s still fighting” That’s what having a young very attractive model girlfriend will do to ya. Gotta keep the incentive for having her stick around. It may not be about dollars for Shane, even at this point, but he won’t turn down millions to be a resume builder either. Sad really.
CollegeDropIn - January 22, 2012
It’s about dollars. That divorce settlement was pretty brutal.
Scott Christ - January 22, 2012
Yeah I heard. But I’m saying his current girlfriend you know he needs an incentive to keep her interested. Have you seen her? Boy oh boy.
Whenever I think about the fight with Manny Pacquiao I can’t help but to think of this:
" >
<a href="http://
Shane lost some street cred in that fight when he decided it was better to moon walk than to get sent to the moon by Manny Pacquiao. God bless him.
CollegeDropIn - January 22, 2012
I’ve seen her. Not my style. But then I am not a famous, rich athlete.
Scott Christ - January 22, 2012
It’s wrong for me to make such a presumptuous comment in regards to how Shane landed her, but what other explanation is there really? How many prize fighters beyond their mark could land a young attractive model based on his looks?
CollegeDropIn - January 22, 2012
If
he and the rest of us had to rely on looks alone to get women, young attractive models or not, we would mainly be single ;)
rec’d your comment above just for the clip :)
BrianBrock - January 23, 2012
I would welcome input from people who prefer men to women, but I don’t find Shane Mosley to be an ugly man. He’s a bit messed up now, but I actually think he’s a handsome dude.
Apprentice - January 23, 2012
He’s very good-looking, imo. Wonderful unexpected eyes, a face like those anthropomophized sun images, only better, wonderful smile. Shame his brain is gone.
BoxAnne - January 23, 2012
Awful fight, was against Kell Brook facing him and def dont want Khan to fight him.

What's with this awful matchmaking in the last couple of days
Pac-Cotto 2?? Khan-Mosley??? What’s next,Wlad-Mormeck gets resurrected??
Curtis2012 - January 22, 2012
Haven’t been here for a while?
Kory Kitchen - January 22, 2012
lol
Sweet science - January 22, 2012
Uh, Wlad-Mormeck is happening on March 3.
Actually, all are good matchmaking. They’re just shitty fights. There’s a difference.
Scott Christ - January 22, 2012
So that fight did get resurrected
I need to be on this site more, lol
Curtis2012 - January 22, 2012
I can imagine Sky loving the idea as an excuse to bring back PPV. Just show a bunch of old clips of Mosley and that 20 seconds of the Mayweather fight and you have Khan taking on a ‘living legend with massive knockout power’.
Personally if Mosley is going to keep fighting, I think that a rematch with Margarito is the best option. They are both as shot as each other. Margarito can say he wants revenge for the first night and explain that he wasn’t mentally there due him caught cheating, which he obviously did not know anything about.
The Khan fight would be horrible. Khan should challenge Marquez if he wants to beat a legend that actually can still go a bit. Hell, even Morales…
Eoin_not_ian - January 22, 2012
Thanks but no thanks.
MontrealBoxing - January 22, 2012
If this read: Mosely to take on Dominique Strauss Khan
I’d be happy to hear that old man (DKS) was going to get a righteous beating.
But Amir Khan vs Mosely. No way.
pakinpower - January 23, 2012
What’s with this match up? I’m Khan-fused!
cylee1180 - January 23, 2012
It was funny the first time
Less so now im afraid
Sweet science - January 23, 2012
no biggy , i amuse myself and im amused by khan!
cylee1180 - January 23, 2012
If he Khan't get Peterson
I’d rather him fight Prescott than Mosley, at least he’s shown something in his last couple of fights
Colon3l - January 23, 2012
yeah I would much rather even Prescott too
I’ve seen pretty much all of Khan’s fights, but I would find something else to do at the time if he made one with Mosely
BrianBrock - January 23, 2012
I'd watch it, but I probably wouldn't stay up for it
Nice to see Liverpool in a rich vein of form for next weekend……
Sweet science - January 23, 2012
Don’t you start with the footy…
Waldo Rastel - January 23, 2012
:)
Great side Bolton Wanderers
Sweet science - January 23, 2012
shush...
after we beat City then you, then I’ll have a comeback. Right now I got nothing….its tough times. I said that Stewart Downing would be shit. I always said it. I blame everything on him lol
BrianBrock - January 23, 2012
Ha
It will be a good atmosphere at Anfield. The Suarez incident will make both teams be up for it also. Might be controversey galore
Sweet science - January 24, 2012
Almost as good as Newcastle….
Waldo Rastel - January 23, 2012
Who are a lot worse than Blackburn :)
Hell, that was a couple of shit results for us. Good to see were back on track :)
And hell, we had and have major injury troubles
Sweet science - January 24, 2012
