In what may be as close to an actual fight as we get between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr this year (or any year), Pacquiao has ranked well ahead of Mayweather on Bloomberg's list of the top 100 power athletes in all of sports.
A quick explanation of the list:
"The real key is measuring how these superstars perform," said Rick Horrow, president of Horrow Sports Ventures and a contributor to Bloomberg Television. In athletics, power means "earning power for athletes, owners, agents, communities and corporate brands."
Manny came in at No. 28, down from No. 24 in 2011, and Floyd went from unranked to slot in at No. 49.
The top ten are Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, LeBron James, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Shaquille O'Neal, Shaun White, Novak Djokovic, and Calvin Johnson. (Lions represent!)
I guess we should stop bitching when tennis on ESPN2 pushes Friday Night Fights back.

No small thing here when it comes to star power
And now that Floyd has rejected 50/50……and demanded the equivalent of almost 70/30…….even I am reaching the conclusion that these two never fight.

I wonder where the next boxer (Cotto?) would rank on this list.
It should be noted though that this is only for athletes competing in the US and measuring their “power” in the US. On a worldwide list Pacquiao would trounce Mayweather and the list wouldn’t be full of American football players.
