Floyd Mayweather Jr License Hearing Set for May 5 Fight

Floyd Mayweather has even less chance of not receiving a license than Victor Ortiz did, but the Nevada State Athletic Commission has to go through the motions anyway, and Dan Rafael of ESPN.com reports that Mayweather's license hearing is set for February 1.

Mayweather (42-0, 26 KO) still has no opponent set for the date, but is reportedly willing to go up to 154 pounds for just the second time in his career to face Miguel Cotto. His upcoming prison sentence was delayed to allow him to fight on May 5, as per an agreement with the MGM Grand.

Floyd will celebrate his 35th birthday on February 24, so time is ticking on his career and -- OK, look, I'm just trying to fill some space here. Mayweather might fight Miguel Cotto, he might fight Canelo Alvarez, maybe there's some mystery opponent we don't know about yet. Maybe they'll wait and see if Ortiz beats Andre Berto on February 11 and try to set up a rematch there. I'm trying to fill space because there's literally 0% chance that Nevada says no to Mayweather on February 1. He's not going to jail in large part because his fight will be a boost for the Vegas economy. The NSAC isn't about to pull a power play, no matter what their alleged standards on fighter conduct are.

I totally want Floyd/Victor 2. I don’t know why…but I totally do.

At the end of the day, it’s one of those things where, the whooole…you know what?
