Though the IBF has thus far seemed intent to stand firm on its decision to not order an Amir Khan vs Lamont Peterson rematch, the WBA, which also supervises one of the belts Peterson won on December 10, may step in and call for something to be done about that. RingTV.com has all kinds of conflicting stories as to whom the man in the stupid hat really was, who was earlier reported by Sky Sports to be an IBF official.
"We don't have an idea who this guy is," WBA President Gilberto Mendoza told Sky Sports in England. "We can't identify him."
Meanwhile, one source has informed RingTV.com that the man is Mustafa Ameen, who once served as the business manager of former Olympic heavyweight hopeful Michael Hunter.
Still another source called him "a wannabe" who is "not an IBF official, not in any way associated with the Peterson camp," but who "apparently is just this guy who showed up and managed to get a credential to sit at ringside."
I know I've made light of a lot of this, and I don't apologize for that at all, but here's the thing: This is all getting to be a bit much, and I can't help but think maybe Richard Schaefer is right: Where there's this much smoke, there has to be some kind of fire somewhere, doesn't there?
Now this doesn't mean a rematch will happen. If the WBA orders a rematch, Peterson could always vacate his titles, something he'd have to consider anyway if he wound up being the choice to face Manny Pacquiao in June. And if the WBA orders a rematch but the IBF does not (they're meeting on January 18), Peterson could simply vacate the WBA belt and keep his IBF title.

I often get angry when a fighter who “deserves” a fight doesn’t or can’t get it, due to the boxing gods or whatever else the reason.
Peterson has a good argument why he would deserve to fight Pacquiao, after all he beat the guy that was in line to fight the other pound for pound best, but man really he just fought pretty good against a better fighter who has some annoying holes in his game that he finally had to pay for with a loss (not counting the Prescott chin thing).
I like Peterson but I sure hope he doesn’t fight Pacquiao but I bet you if it were up to Arum only he’d choose Peterson in a second.

My guess is if it were up to Arum they’d take Cotto. It’s a bigger fight and more money for Bob despite paying Cotto a lot more than he’d have to pay Peterson and he wouldn’t have to deal with anyone but Miguel.
