Floyd Mayweather Jr has been granted a conditional, one-fight license for his May 5 bout against Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas after a fairly easy hearing today in Nevada, during which Mayweather announced Cotto as his intended opponent. That fight is now 100% good to go.
The NSAC voted 5-0 to grant Mayweather the conditional license.

Maywaether (42-0, 26 KO) and Cotto (37-2, 30 KO) will fight at the 154-pound limit, it has been reported. This all came about after Manny Pacquiao named Cotto his No. 1 choice for a June 9 fight, followed by reports that the fight was set, and then Cotto saying he wouldn't go to 147 again. Pacquiao says he won't fight over 147, and any talks crumbled there.
Mayweather stepped in and offered to go to 154, and here we are today.
Mayweather made his case today in front of the commission, but it was a foregone conclusion. The commission has stated that Mayweather must continue his community service and counseling, and that he cannot again defer his jail date, and must report on June 1.
Thank you to Ryan Maquiñana and Kevin Iole for their reports from the hearing.

154? That’s a bit big for Mayweather, but I still don’t see him losing to Cotto. I don’t know why they didn’t meet at 151 or 152. But either way good fighting is good fighting. Mayweather said he walks around at 150 so I don’t really understand going up in weight.

I think Mayweather is smart enough to know that talent wins the day. He beat a bigger Oscar De La Hoya with a 154-pound limit. He can beat Miguel Cotto with a 154-pound limit, and now say he didn’t make Cotto fight at a catchweight.

Yup. I think that was his main purpose to show fans he doesn't need this catchweight

Doubt it. stfu.

Cool comment. Hope it was worth it!

Mr. Scott Christ
that’s my buddy…we kind of have a stupid inside joke where we said “stfu” after every comment. He’s sorry and won’t do it again…could you unban him please?

Don’t forget Cotto is a smaller junior middle himself. I wouldn’t be surprised if neither weighs the limit, and they have a de facto catchweight of like 152.

Don’t forget last year when he fought an extremely hydrated Ortiz who was in the 160s on fight night.

Who is the better fighter?
DLH when he fought Mayweather or Cotto now?
Frank Lee - February 1, 2012
Good question
de la Hoya IMO.
Cotto has beaten three very slow fighters in Foreman Mayorga and Margarito. compared to them he looks like a boxer. Compared to them.

And I’d love to go see this, but a trip+a ticket is going to empty your pockets.

Yeah, he got KD’d a few times in some of those televised wins.

Ricardo Torres was the only guy that knocked him down at that time, though Corley rocked him bad.
Kory Kitchen - February 1, 2012
Ok so maybe not exactly 6 yrs ago. But back when he was beating Mosley and Judah.
