Mayweather vs Cotto: Floyd Says Pacquiao Ducked Him

Floyd Mayweather Jr, who was today granted a license to face Miguel Cotto on May 5, explained briefly why he's fighting Cotto instead of Manny Pacquiao, something that bizarrely seems to have caught a lot of boxing's casual "fans" and lookie-loos off-guard, as they appear to have woken up this morning believing there was a chance of Mayweather-Pacquiao in May:

I'm fighting Miguel Cotto on May 5th because Miss Pac Man is ducking me.

The merits of Mayweather's claim are debatable at best, but that's what he said.

Cotto also made use of Twitter already today, saying that he "will beat" Floyd Mayweather on May 5. Cotto was Manny Pacquiao's first choice for his next fight, too, but Cotto didn't want to fight at 147 pounds again, and Pacquiao wouldn't go higher.

Pacquiao now is likely headed into a fight with top 140-pounder Timothy Bradley. That bout is tentatively scheduled for June 9, but could be moved back.

decent

i actually like these two fights, i think they’re dangerous fights for both pac and floyd.

its a dangerous fight for Pacquiao because Bradley will have movement and speed – a combination that always foils any fighter. For Floyd, its another walk in the park. A lot of Floyd fans have no been chirping about this version of Cotto was better than the 2009 Cotto. They are saying he’s a more technically better fighter. But does that equal a better fighter? Hell no. The guy who was relentless, went to the body, in his prime will always be the better fighter. This cautious, more defensive Cotto has no chance to beat Floyd. Key to beating Floyd is PRESSURE, PRESSURE, PRESSURE.

Key to beating Floyd is PRESSURE, PRESSURE, PRESSURE

Want to ask Ricky Hatton how that worked out?

aint no blueprint
42* have tried 42* have failed
trouble with southpaws

like i said before
at the end of the day
helluva fighter

What’s the star for? Generally curious on that one.

There’s a rematch in there. It’s not 42 different individuals

look like i was sayin before
power pellets

It's like one of those kids toys

Where you pull a string and wherever it lands, a different Mayweather saying is played.

u make any mistakes u have to pay

I can tell you that Cotto, watching from ringside, was amazed in the first four or five rounds that Hatton had the success that he did against Floyd.

He will know what he should do but I for one do not believe that he has what it takes at this point to execute. The Margarito fight told me very little to change my mind.

Floyd by interesting UD.

You dont offer someone $40 million flat.....

but deny them all revenue and PPV of a fight that has a possibility of generating 2.5 million buys and accuse them of ducking you when he declines your crappy offer.

He was calling Manny’s bluff, Manny asked for a lesser share, so Floyd called him out on it. It was a silly offer, but Manny backed down first.

Mayweather's lame explanation an insult

to people’s intelligence. He calls Pac a 7 million dollar fighter, says he has “proof”.

Come on, who’s buying that nonsense. I’m not sure why Floyd and Arum gave out such dumb excuses, all factually-challenged.

It’s like they tried to out-do each other with the dumbest excuses…and Floyd won.

I think Floyd already made up his mind, maybe Pac is gonna be his last career fight and he’s just milking it for all its worth. If that’s the case, just say that’s your plan instead of playing games.

as i put on mayweather’s comment, put your handbags away and agree to a 50/50 split before you start shooting your mouth out about who’s ducking who

Lol

Coming from Mayweather the guy ducked cotto for years.

I never heard

or read a news article where Bob Arum and Cotto were trying to negotiate a fight with Floyd.

So

Floyd basically said

" You will drug test how I say, fight where and when I say, and make as much money as I allow you to, and if don’t agree to these terms, you are ducking me".

Thanks Floyd.

He thought calling Manny and offering him and Top Rank 40 million dollars to buy them out made him look good when in reality it was such a lame non-starter, he wound up sounding like a ‘wise guy’.
