Floyd Mayweather Jr
"Miguel Cotto is a world class fighter who can never be taken for granted and continues to prove he is one of the best in boxing. It will be a challenge for me to compete with him at this weight, but this is the type of test I thrive on and gives me the motivation to train even harder. I have no doubt in my mind that my title belt collection will increase once again and Cotto's reign as champion will come to an end on May 5."
Miguel Cotto
"I am here to fight the biggest names in boxing. I've never ducked anyone or any challenge in front of me. I have accepted everything to give the fans what they like...great and exciting fights. That is what the sport of boxing is all about; making the fights that the fans want and deserve to see. On May 5, stay tuned, because I will convincingly beat Floyd Mayweather."

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather Promotions
"Floyd always asks us to find the best available competition for him to fight and we have found that in Miguel Cotto. This is a very risky fight for Floyd as Miguel is a solid 154-pound champion who has already proven to have great boxing abilities and to be a very competent and strong puncher. This is a big test for Floyd, but as always I believe, he is the superior fighter with unmatched skills. This will make the difference and lead to another Mayweather victory the night of May 5."
Richard Schaefer, Golden Boy Promotions
"What we have here are two champions of amazing caliber set to meet in the ring on May 5 and give boxing and sports fan one of the most compelling match-ups in the sport's history. Floyd Mayweather has already achieved worldwide recognition as one of the best fighters ever and Miguel Cotto is one of the greatest fighters of this era. I commend both fighters for agreeing to the fight each other on one of the biggest weekends for boxing and also commend them for agreeing to participate in Olympic style drug testing, a precedent set by Floyd, which continues to uphold the integrity of the sport."

Cotto sounds pretty confident
I wonder if its something he sees in Mayweather or something he sees in himself.
I love this fight. This will be a huge test for both guys.

Isn't it amazing how as soon as Cotto became a free agent, the fight with Mayweather happened
Funny how that works….

Yeah, Manny should take that into account.

Well, I’m not Arum’s biggest fan (to say the least), but I’m not sure in this case that Arum matters that much. I think neither men want this fight or at least they’re not willing to bend to each other’s demands, whether reasonsable or not. I really doubt we will ever see this fight.
Apprentice - February 1, 2012
Well i don’t think there’s that much beef between Manny and Floyd, all the “punk” and “Miss Pacman” stuff is just Floyd being Floyd… I feel the real reason this fight won’t get done is because of Arum and Floyd. They just like making each other look bad and pretty much messing with each others’ money.
Clove_art - February 1, 2012
True, but I don’t see either men budging too much from the 50/50 thing. I mean, maybe Pacquiao will go back to what he said before about taking a little less, but unless that changes I don’t see this happening.
Apprentice - February 1, 2012
RIght.
Clove_art - February 2, 2012
Nor should they
They we all set two years ago at 50/50 but the one of them moved the ball
pakinpower - February 2, 2012
Yes lets pretend the fight would have happened if Floyd accepted 50/50
There is a reason why Bob refused may 5th, why Bob Made that cut that won’t heal for 6 month excuse, A reason why he made that ridiculous stadium excuse(which have been debunked by every boxing site), there is a reason why he planned for a June 9th fight for all along, there is a reason why Arum blatantly said Floyd wasn’t a option for Manny when he went down to the Philippines, there is a reason why Arum try to delay this fight to november.
I have noticed that some people have a very selective memory when it comes to this, but the truth is Arum doesn’t want this fight.
So don’t try to pretend the guy is a victim
Mohammedini Hussein - February 2, 2012
It was a bullshit thing to say because Manny knows damn well he wont take less then 50-50.

*Epic Movie Voice* In the land of many "+1"s, this +1 stands head and shoulders above the rest...
+1
battlestar - February 1, 2012
Ever think about who made Cotto the star that he is
And the money that he’s made.
Had he represented and promoted himself, he might be fighting …say, in Puerto Rico with a local fan base. lol
pakinpower - February 2, 2012
Yeah like he wouldn't have another promoter and since he such a bad fighter without Arum he would be nothing
J Theory - February 2, 2012
this fight maybe would be similar to mayweather-judah fight, cotto maybe can dominated floyd the first rounds and later floyd does his job…
EL CIERTO (VEN) - February 2, 2012
lets just assume cotto n bradley both pull out upsets
how appeling would manny vs floyd sound after that?
el javi - February 2, 2012 via Android app
My guess is that’s the only way that fight would happen
Apprentice - February 2, 2012
agreed…or we will get the fight in the twilight ala roy jones bhop rematch
Vicmatic1 - February 2, 2012
I still would want to see it
