Former IBF welterweight titlist Jan Zaveck will face Bethuel Uushona in his return to the ring on March 24, as the Slovenian star looks to get back into the mix at 147 pounds.

Zaveck (31-2, 18 KO) convinced a lot of people that he's more than just some regional fighter who lived off of easy title defenses when he came to America last year to face Andre Berto in September. Zaveck lost to Berto that night in Mississippi, but he did so on cuts after five rounds, and had prior to that given a fine accounting of his skills and grittiness, going toe-to-toe with Berto every step of the way.

Star-divide

Uushona (25-1, 8 KO) is a solid comeback opponent for Zaveck, a Namibian fighter who was seen last March in the United Kingdom, losing a close fight to Commonwealth welterweight titlist Denton Vassell. Bad Left Hook had that fight a draw, but not a robbery win for Vassell, who also fought well in what was a pretty good fight. Uushona, 29, has fought three times since then, winning twice and coming out with a two-round technical draw in the other fight, his last in November.

Uushona has some slickness and is a pretty clever boxer, but unless Zaveck (who will turn 36 prior to the bout) overlooks him or has gotten old since the Berto fight, it's likely that the Slovenian will be a bit much for him.

The fight will take place at Tabor Arena in Maribor, Slovenia.

I love Uushona, he is a fantastic boxer. Glad he’s getting another shot in the mainstream. I thought he beat Vassell, close, but clear. Zaveck is a good fighter as well. Thought he’d give Berto a tough time, and he was, and probably would have really pushed him for 12 rounds If not for the headbutts. Great fight, I’m definitely looking forward to this one.

Yeah I agree. I wouldn’t call Uushona a fantastic boxer as he does get a little silly at times, but I do like him. I also had him beating Vassell, and think Zaveck is a good test for him, vice versa.
