Did Maidana just get into Alexander's head by requesting a simple drug test? Based on Alexander's outlandish reaction, it sure seems like he did.(Photo by Scott Heavey/Getty Images)
As was reported earlier in the day, Marcos Maidana requested that the Missouri State Athletic Commission actually do the post-fight drug test with the commission and Devon Alexander's team agreeing to this request. This action was obviously influenced by the events surrounding the Chavez-Rubio fight in Texas. It seems that Missouri doesn't require the most basic of drug tests, a simple urinalysis.
Apparently this basic and sensible action has got Devon all riled up according to Jake Donovan.
I was motivated before, but they've motivated me even more. I'm in tremendous shape. They can speculate all they want - speculation, rumors or whatever. At the end of the day, it just adds motivation. When I first heard the news, when my coach (Kevin Cunningham) first told me, I laughed. My whole career has been clean. Then all of a sudden these accusations (of PED's) - they are ridiculous. I will take any test that they want me to take. I will take it three days before, three days after, whenever they want. I will take any test.
It's ludicrous for someone to even approach me like that, even seeing drugs in the same sentence as Devon Alexander. It (offends me). I don't like to take any drugs of any kind. I can't even take Tylenol PM because it makes me dizzy or woozy. My body is clean, I don't poison it with alcohol, drugs, weed or whatever.
Take the tests or whatever. You still have to get in the ring.

Listen Devon, Maidana is asking you to pee in a cup, not accusing you of being a dirty fighter. He is asking the commission to enforce a rule that should be as standard as ropes around the ring. If you need Marcos Maidana trying to enforce a standard practice in order to motivate yourself, then you got bigger problems. This is the second biggest fight of your career Devon, this silly stuff should not even register on your radar. Do you guys think that this outburst shows that Devon is in a bad place mentally?

Let me say this
Both Ortiz and Alexander spout comic gold every time they speak to the press. A fight between these two would be an absolute dream.

He sure got into a lather. Edgy (about the fight, if not in general), self-absorbed (of course he is), perhaps impressionable (given how much gets written about this topic).

I’ve got it: maneuvering to inherit Mayweather’s mantle.
BTW, I like your headline, Waldo: “Alexander Motivated” etc.

Such outlandish requests can only mean that Alexander will be shouting with even more fury when he throws his short soft punches.

Devon Alexander is not mentally tough enough to go 12 rounds with Marcos Maidana. Maidana TKO11.

I thought it was scheduled for 10?
Kory Kitchen - February 16, 2012
If it’s scheduled for 10, then even Devon and his people know he’s not tough enough to last 12.

Judges
Those three, in St-Louis, are the most important mens of the night.

I don’t know what the problem is. It’s not like they’re going to give Devon a pre-fight test for heart.
El Destruyo - February 16, 2012
Thank god they didn’t get his idiot trainer a quote or whatnot…
I really hope he gets laid out….
