As promised here is an update on Queen Underwood's road to London. On Tuesday she took on Mikaela Mayer. According to the report from Kevin Baxter, the fight was quite one-sided for Mayer except for one crucial stretch. In the first round, Mayer managed to land a number of point-accumulating combos, which gave her the early lead. However, Queen came back with a vengeance at the start of the second round. She managed to outpoint Mayer 11-5 over the second two minutes. This fortunate turnaround for Queen was caused by a dubious decision by Mayer.

"I think I lost it ... when I decided to stay inside with her," said Mayer, who choose to go toe-to-toe with an aggressive Underwood in the second round and paid for it by absorbing repeated blows to the heads and body. "Overall I think I did good. I think I can do better."
For Underwood, it seems like she is almost guaranteed a spot to the World Championships in May. I think she only needs to win one more bout to advance. Also she is currently in the winner's bracket, which means she would need to lose twice before she is eliminated from the competition. After reading her touching story, I am certainly rooting for Underwood to go to London and hopefully take home a medal. Rarely do boxers deserve to have something go well, however, Queen definitely deserves a moment in the sun.

She fights out of a gym by my house. The gym that I’ve gone to on occasion.
There is an interesting article about her in the Seattle Times.
