Dereck Chisora has caused quite a stir today, one day ahead of his WBC heavyweight title showdown against Vitali Klitschko in Germany, slapping the 40-year-old star in the face at their weigh-in today. Here's the video:
That's no little slap, either -- that's a good smack. Chisora has already been fined $50,000 by the WBC, and Jose Sulaiman has more or less publicly thrown his support behind Klitschko for tomorrow's fight:
"He’s no gentleman at all, and he’s failed in what we expect of boxers. He wanted Vitali to lose control, but Vitali will make him pay for this in the ring, definitely."
Klitschko came in at 243 pounds on the scales, while Chisora was at 241.

Vitali, of course, had his own reaction, and as usual he stayed pretty calm, took it mostly in stride, and is planning to do his talking in the ring. From Sky Sports:
"I'll be hitting him back tomorrow, in the ring. He's not all there. Dereck is full of nervousness and I feel he is afraid, otherwise he would not have jumped back like he did. He hit me not like a boxer but like a woman, with an open hand. If he wants to fight properly, he must do that with his fists."
Well, if anyone was expect a dull fight still, I think this probably ups the chances that Vitali is going to come out looking for blood tomorrow. Good for boxing fans, probably bad for Dereck Chisora.

Chisora must want his night to end early tommorrow.
He’s gonna get punished, slowly and painfully, then taken out, imo.
Matt Mosley - February 17, 2012
I see this going a similar way to Vitali vs Chris Arreola.
Matt Mosley - February 17, 2012
I think it gets uglier, faster.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
I was gonna say “he’s gonna annihilate him” but thought Vit might drag it out a bit.
Do you mean you think VK slaughters him, or that it ends up a DQ or something?
Matt Mosley - February 17, 2012
He’s going to beat the shit out of him. Chisora is IMO a bit more nakedly aggressive than Arreola. While Arreola walked into shots, he could be “controlled” with the jabs. Chisora will do all he can to come through them and throw leather, however recklessly. Vitali’s going to unleash the heavy artillery earlier here.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
Agreed
Should be fun to watch while it lasts.
AP77 - February 17, 2012
Not to jump in, as I’m doing just that, but I expect that while Klitschko may drag it out a bit, as you say, but only a little. He seems very level headed.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
Love this quote from Vitali
“I’m really looking forward to teaching this young gentleman a lesson,” he said. "He is from Great Britain, but he’s lacking appropriate manners
PhinsAllDay - February 17, 2012
I actually also like this.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
What the hell could have caused that? What a stupid and low thing to do.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
Chisora being Chisora. He’s a dick, and a bit of a goon.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
And let’s be honest. It upped the buzz a little bit.
Brent Brookhouse - February 17, 2012
Imagine what he would be doing if he didn’t have boxing as an outlet? At least that behavior will get him exactly nowhere tomorrow.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
Everybody in boxing is now talking about this fight
The british and german press is eating this up……
It just made the fight more interesting.
WBC just wanted a excuse to give out a fine.
IMO i think the fine is ridiculous.
20% out of his purse?
Mohammedini Hussein - February 17, 2012
I am all for finding the stupid ass things the WBC did, but I can’t agree with this. The idiot smacked him in the face. It’s not an excuse to fine him, it’s a damn good reason.
Don’t hit people at the weigh-in and you won’t get fined. Chisora’s a moron.
Also, let’s be serious: The fight’s happening tomorrow. The tickets are sold. The TV networks have paid. There’s no more money coming into this fight because he smacked him. Just money out of Chisora’s wallet. Oh well.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
This says it all
Matt Mosley - February 17, 2012
It was stupid of him, but don't you agree that this stirs up more interest in this fight?
Boxing forums are blowing up because of this, the media is talking it up.
If you hate the guy, you are going to watch to see him get destroyed.
If you enjoyed the drama than you have a bigger chance of watching the fight.
More people who barely payed attention to this fight might get interested and tune in.
Mohammedini Hussein - February 17, 2012
The day that boxing forums (including this one) have any impact on anything will be the day before pigs fly. All those dudes were gonna watch this fight to begin with.
Maybe? But I doubt it’s a significant number of increased viewers on RTL, where the fight was already going to be a hit; or BoxNation, which is a subscriber service; or Epix, which is barely in existence.
It didn’t sell any tickets. It didn’t get a network to pay more money. The only money it affected was Chisora’s money, for the worse.
If he wanted to do something to increase interest in this fight, and decided it had to be hitting Vitali in the face, he should have done it at a press conference weeks ago, not the day before the fight.
But I don’t think he was trying to increase interest. I just think he’s an unpleasant idiot.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
About 5 people I know, who generally have no interest in boxing whatsoever, have got in touch with me all excited about this fight. Then I tell them that its not on Sky Sports but on a subscription channel. Then they all went ‘oh…well… I don’t want to see it that much, I just kind of wanted to see Klitschko destroy this guy’.
Also, Chisora is an idiot and fully deserves the fine.
Eoin_not_ian - February 17, 2012
Boxnation are having a freeview weekend, so the fight is free to watch in the UK. Sky Channel 456
Andersac - February 17, 2012
Really? Awesome. I shall have to get round to everybody to tell them the good news.
Eoin_not_ian - February 17, 2012
Actually – might not be. All the programming today and around the fight tomorrow says “Freeview” in front of it, but the main segment from 9.30 onwards doesn’t.
6.30-9.30 “Freeview Live: Klitschko v Chisora”
9.30-12.00 “Live- Klitschko v Chisora”
Sakes
Andersac - February 17, 2012
Now that sounds more realistic!
Eoin_not_ian - February 17, 2012
Yeah, that’s what they do to lure you in. They give you the hype for free (or so I’m able to tell from my trusty UK boxing man’s channel guide)
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
I’ll venture a guess that Chisora is a bit, how shall we say, “on edge.”
DrRck - February 17, 2012
Chisora used to steal cars and go joyriding in his youth. That tells you what kind of guy he is/was. As a Briton fighter’s like him just embarass me.
Just do your talking in the ring, you big average bum.
Matt Mosley - February 17, 2012
He certainly does not represent you folks, at least to colonists like me.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
Let’s not forget his more recent assault of a girlfriend. Chisora doesn’t get a lot of terrible press the way other, more famous guys have now and in the past, but he’s really, really not a nice person at all.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
Yeah, i forgot about that.
Matt Mosley - February 17, 2012
Does Chisora have a deathwish? As if Vitali wasn’t gonna beat him convincingly anyway but this just gives him extra motivation…
MattyEdgeworth - February 17, 2012
he has balls
Mohammedini Hussein - February 17, 2012
Brains work better.
BoxAnne - February 17, 2012
adamek was nice to vitali and look at his face after the fight..chisora..i will pray for you..lets all pray for delboy..i see delboy going out shannon briggs style…being in the hospital for days..vitali is the better klit.,,throws the left jab with force and his right hand will make love to chisoras chin..ivan drago coming to town and there aint no rocky around…
Vicmatic1 - February 17, 2012
side note
chirosa gets fined for a slap but mayweather chokes out ortiz and looks like he wants to bite his nose with his lips all over him and no fine?
haha jose is slime..i know mayweather brings in the $$$
Vicmatic1 - February 17, 2012
“chokes out” is a bit much, but I do think Mayweather should have been fined for that. Not $50K, but something.
As for his swallowing of Ortiz’s nose, that was just weird.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
still no worse then the slap..but u know jose..gotta make dollars..its ok to hit women..
Vicmatic1 - February 17, 2012
…you can’t fine a guy for non-boxing related issues. So the “hitting women” thing doesn’t really apply to anything in the “fine” department. Plus, Chisora has that on his own record.
Brent Brookhouse - February 17, 2012
there will be blood tmw
possibly a murder as well; victim wil be one black male
Gouken - February 17, 2012
Why does he want to die?
That was completely unecessary and stupid (and see how Chisora step back after he slapped Vitali, ridiculous). I was hoping for a good fight but now I just wish to see Vitali annihilate him.
IronMalaka - February 17, 2012
The prediction of buzz has certainly proven true.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
I have a double on Chisora… He better do me proud. I think that Vitty’s going to beat him, but hey, crazier things have happened… It’s boxing!
I like the idea of a guy who (hopefully) is willing to exchange fast and hard against a Klitty.
RyanSexton - February 17, 2012
Well, maybe you’l get lucky against a “Klitschko,” but Chisora needs to deliver those body shots, and I don’t think tat he’ll get close.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
Bookmakers taking no more bets on Vitali by KO
Matt Mosley - February 17, 2012
That was a (not so funny) joke on my part, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was true after this.
Matt Mosley - February 17, 2012
1/4 ive seen, compared to 1/2 they had for the Adamek fight. Not sure if that is slap related though or if the bookies have decided theyre not so keen on giving money away
whypunchrabbits? - February 17, 2012
Chisora, you do not slap Dr. Ironfist like some sissy man. Tomorrow, in the ring, you will die.
The Twillness - February 17, 2012
‘’If he dies… he dies.’’
IronMalaka - February 17, 2012
Like "Del Boy" wasn't gonna be fighting an impossible fight anyway.
On top of all the other dumb things he has done this just confirms how poor his intelligence is.
Whatever you do, don’t make the giant angry!
Matt Mosley - February 17, 2012
good, i hope this make vitaly fights more exciting, and try to look for ko, not just jabbing and keep the distance…. though very innecesary and low way to behave…
EL CIERTO (VEN) - February 17, 2012
I in fact like his control, and passionless ability to dominate.
I hope that happens tomorrow, with just a soupcon of emotion, as a seasoning.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
well i respect that, though not share…
EL CIERTO (VEN) - February 17, 2012
Thank you. I can understand and respect your point of view also.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
sorry i was going to say, “not COMPLETELY share”, i also like his ability to dominate but i would to see him fighting more exciting, thanks…
EL CIERTO (VEN) - February 17, 2012
I understand. There is no problem.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
Not a spur of the moment action.
Chisora told a UK radio phone in show on talkSPORT this morning that he had something planned for the weigh in. This was definitely premeditated to try and throw Vitali off his game. Could be viewed as a master stroke come Saturday night……. But, with the lack of reaction from Vitali I suspect it will just go down as an epic fail!
Darren Mazey - February 17, 2012
best quote ever on sky sports news live when it happened, jim white who was presenting at the time said of the incident: he’s obviously getting his shot in now just in case he doesn’t get another chance to hit him
sparky_mufc - February 17, 2012
haha
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
comedy
rec that
BrianBrock - February 17, 2012
Always liked Jim White
Sweet science - February 17, 2012
Having his original walk up music denied must have really got Chisora pissed.
I wonder if he realized how big of a mistake he made when he saw the look on Vitali’s face.
Im_a_fun_haver - February 17, 2012
I believe Vitali Klitschko is one of the world’s most intimidating men. Largely because he’s so totally in control of himself, and such a gentleman. He is unflappable. He cannot be flapped.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
+1.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
He in fact has no flaps.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
lol
BrianBrock - February 17, 2012
Totally.
Eoin_not_ian - February 17, 2012
Where is the “cannot be flapped” part from? I’ve been trying to figure this out for ages now…
I remember the pica of vitali from that political riot thing. Dude looked like a demon. Why anyone would ever fight that man in or out of a ring is beyond me
battle axe of doom - February 17, 2012 via mobile
Scrubs
J.D.: You’re unflappable!
Dr. Kevin Casey: It’s true. I can’t be flapped.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
You have put my mind at ease. For years I had been thinking it was from arrested development
battle axe of doom - February 17, 2012 via mobile
I stopped watching Scrubs in the early 2000s, although I thought it was a work of brilliance.
“Unflappable” is an adjective, of course, so you can turn it into a noun, verb, or otherwise play with it.
I have not, however, ever monged rumors here.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
Scrubs is one of my favorite shows, and I have extensive thoughts on it. I’ll keep them brief.
Seasons one and two are fantastic. Season three is very, very good. After that it gets rocky.
Season four is strong, and Heather Graham held her own more than I expected, although she had annoying Heather Graham mannerisms. Season five was quite bad — a sudden and incredibly jarring turn. Season six is heinous. Once the show became more stupid than smart, more goofy than funny, it was all over. Season seven, half-aborted due to the writers strike, was going down the same wretched path and frankly, it’s almost a relief it was cut short, because the episodes were that bad.
Then they changed networks and Bill Lawrence remembered what the show was, and season eight was a nice sendoff season for the real show. The ninth season, in the new hospital/school, with all the new characters, was actually slightly better than it should have been, but still a predictable failure.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
I don’t recall how many episodes I watched afterward, but the morning after that early one with the Star Wars musical interlude, I went into my office and told every one that the series was the work of sheer genius.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
What music did he originally want to go to?
RyanSexton - February 17, 2012
His usual theme
The tune off of Only Fools and Horses. (Best Sitcom the world has ever produced…. much better than that peice of shot friends…)
Sweet science - February 17, 2012
arrested development is easily the best sitcom ever
but if you want a britcom i’ll take fawlty towers over nearly everything out there
battle axe of doom - February 17, 2012
Fawlty Towers is epic. All hail John Cleese!
DPlainview - February 17, 2012
Faulty Towers is on a par with Only Fools and Horses. Love them both. Why was his music not allowed? Listened all day and still not heard a decent reason.
Darren Mazey - February 17, 2012
He was so stoked
he chose to pimp slap him? Wow, what a goober…
honorablecbm - February 17, 2012 via iPhone app
I don't hate it
To beat a Klit you have to get in their head. He tried….. He failed
Im more concerned about Suliman. His quotes are unbelievably biased and someone in his position should not be making them. I know there is nothing anyone can do but…. it’s still wrong
Sweet science - February 17, 2012
I might be the only one seeing it this way,
but that took balls, and I think it could pay off. Del Boy’s got no chance if Vitali just chooses to jab and fight like he usually does. His only chance is to drag him into a brawl. I think Chisora understands that, and he’s taking his chances.
alargar - February 17, 2012
I can see what you are saying but i only think that works if you have the talent, punch and or toughness to compete with the Klits.
Chisora is an average at best fighter, imo.
Not very fast, not all that powerful (when talking world class power) and limited in skills and ability.
He has only a fraction of what Vitali has in all the above categories, imo, even though he is the much younger man.
Matt Mosley - February 17, 2012
Plus Chisora is half a foot shorter and has half foot shorter reach too.
What he did here today only makes his work even harder tommorrow, imo.
Matt Mosley - February 17, 2012
Every boxing fan and his or her father, mother, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, and who else might be interested, is hoping for some kind of decent showing before Klitschko closes the show.
I think that’s all. At least, that’s what I’m looking for. Chisora whaled away at Helenius, and bulldozed his way in, and Helenius just couldn’t keep him off. Also, Helenius was not in notably wonderful condition. So, Chisora was able to connect repeatedly with big body shots, and have some luck with those wild head shots.
Chisora has some tremendous body work in that fight, but as someone pointed out, this was partly (not entirely) because Helenius really didn’t look good. I personally think that Helenius has some moments of brilliant fighting interspersed with extended periods of looking like he’s facing something he didn’t expect.
Chisora has a bulldog mentality, an ability to cover distance in an amazingly short span of time for a heavyweight, willingness to throw a punch and be damned of what happens next, and a caution-to-the-wind commitment that probably comes from not having a tomorrow after his next fight.
But he’s just not good enough.
However, he’ll give what he’s got, and that’s what I’m looking for. It will be a slaughter, but I hope the best fight that I’ve seen a Klitschko in for a long time.
And I hope it is not a prolonged torment.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
And I’ve wondered what impact Helenius’s hand injury had on the fight. Chisora admitted he was hurt in the 1st round by that same hand.
Anyway, WAR CHISORA! This division is in bad need of a shakeup.
DPlainview - February 17, 2012
I keep forgetting about Helenius’ hand. He also had very little defense, as I recall.
Anyway, I think that Chisora’s only chance will be to get close enough, often enough, to land those body shots, and he’s got a pretty steep uphill battle to do that.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
Will this fight be live streamed?
FrontHandMan - February 17, 2012
Sure. Not legally, but sure.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012

i thought since its not ppv that one of the networks would stream it
FrontHandMan - February 17, 2012

BoxAnne - February 17, 2012
Chisora is an average at best fighter, imo.
Not very fast, not all that powerful (when talking world class power) and limited in skills and ability.
Don’t agree with that at all. He aint in Klitchko’s league but name me a heavyweight that is currently? When he trains and is fit he is a real handful and hits like a mule kicks! Ask Danny Williams! Decent head movement and relatavley fast for a Heavy. For me a fit and focused Chisora takes care of most other Heavyweights out there barring maybe David Price.
On that note how much do you want to bet the Klitchkos avoid Pricey like the plague? When we gonna see them fight someone who is taller than 5’11"
Darren Mazey - February 17, 2012
When we see Gamboa stop ducking Scott Quigg, and Ward running from George Groves.
HamzaWanderaWRSCO - February 17, 2012
No, don’t. Danny Williams was disgustingly out of shape and hadn’t even trained for that fight. Danny Williams wasn’t there to fight – he may as well have rolled over. Honestly, I’d have preferred he just not show up than come to that fight as he did. He was pathetic.
But Chisora is a good fighter at his best.
Vitali has in recent times fought Kevin Johnson (6’3") and Shannon Briggs (6’4"). Neither of them did any better than the usual. Wladimir fought Haye (6’3") and Tony Thompson (6’5"). Truth is most of the taller heavyweights aren’t any good. The Klitschkos are a rare breed.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012
Price too… and Fury… not as good as the K’s…. but still good
Sweet science - February 17, 2012
Chisora will do better than Arreola
I’m probably the only guy in the world who thinks this fight is gonna kick ass.
When Del Boy is in shape, he moves his head and closes the distance quite well for a heavyweight. I think he’ll make Vit use those old ass legs some tomorrow.
Arreola is easy to control with a jab because he doesn’t move his head at all. He’s also a slow fatty. At Vit’s size, it was like a big fat heavy bag slowly walking to him at the same level all night. Chisora has the ability to make him miss on the way in.
Maybe I’m just being optimistic because this is the closest thing we’ve got to Ali vs Frazier.
Lee Payton - February 17, 2012
You’re not. I’ve got high expectations for it, too.
Scott Christ - February 17, 2012

Sweet science - February 17, 2012
I’m with you. It’s long been the fight I’m most excited for on the schedule.
Oli Goldstein - February 17, 2012
I think that a lot of us expect that. But, for me, just not for more than a few rounds.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
Bless your optimism; it’s transcendental.
I don’t think that Chisora is the battle tank that Arreola is.
DrRck - February 17, 2012
I think I recall at some stage seeing Danny Williams in shape for a fight! Or twice maybe…….Not too often though! Point still remains though that if you did ask Danny Williams I know for a fact he would tell you it’s the hardest he’s been hit. To say Chisora has no power is simply not true.
I suppose you’re right, we all know the Heavyweight division is a farce I’m just sick of seeing these guys blow away washed up old men or blown up Cruiser weights! I mean Shanno Briggs?………..Really? Mormeck?……..come on guys! Still, you can’t beat what’s not there!
Darren Mazey - February 17, 2012
To be fair, though, Matt Mosley said he wasn’t all that powerful, not that he was the Malinaggi of the heavyweight world. Besides that, though….who is Danny Williams and why is he your esteemed barometer for Chisora’s bone jarring punches?
