Antonio DeMarco will make the first defense of his WBC lightweight title on March 17 in Los Mochis, Mexico, facing veteran brawler Miguel Roman, reports Miguel Rivera. Televisa has the TV rights.
DeMarco (26-2-1, 19 KO) pulled off a comeback upset of Jorge Linares on October 15 in Los Angeles, storming back from a huge deficit on the scorecards to brutally knock out the Venezuelan in the 11th round. It was the true highlight of the Hopkins vs Dawson card, and regrettably was seen by very few people on that bomb of a PPV effort.

Roman (37-9, 28 KO) is a tough, exciting fighter who makes for fun fights. He'll be a big underdog here, and deservedly so: At 5'5", he'll be giving away five inches of height, and he's really more of a featherweight than a lightweight, and not good enough to move up well in weight, probably.
He's also never beaten any of his better opponents, never had a night where his determination was the deciding factor against a superior fighter. I suppose that could still happen, but it's becoming less and less likely. He's still young, but he's an old 26 because he's taken a lot of shots in a lot of fights, and he doesn't get knocked out.
After this fight, if he is successful, DeMarco will have to rematch Linares.

DEMARCO LINARES II: AWESOME
DeMarco will go 4 the kill sooner, linares will box more (should do that)

Yeah I’m really interested in that rematch for that exact reason: I want to see if DeMarco comes out extra aggressive from the get-go. Linares is legitimately a beautiful boxer, as purely talented as anyone in the game today except Floyd Mayweather, but his flaws are always going to be there.

Part of the problem lies in the corner (big part of problem). Roach has no plan B or if he does I dont see him enforcing it, his fighters cant block uppercuts or fight backwards. Linares is someone that could have at least 2 plans for the fight, it’s not like he is MArgarito.
I have seen a pattern in Khan, Pacquiao and Chavez: they cannot change or adapt to the situation. I don’t now if it’s Roach’s fault or the fighters but man, once they get in trouble there is no escaping from there.

I’ve been kind of a low-grade, under the radar fan of DeMarco, but as you said, boxp[atino, if Linares boxes more, this could be a good fight.

Never seen Linares fight… Saw some YouTube, he looks awesome. Really like his style.

Linares can be fantastic — I’ve said before he’s like a super-charged Amir Khan, in good and bad ways. Like Khan, he’s got great natural ability, but even better. Like Khan, pressure is not his friend, but it’s even worse for Linares.

I like this as a stay busy fight. Roman is gutsy, and will bring it.
DeMarco has a warrior’s mentality……………..expecting fireworks.
