Tonight's edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights is live at 10 p.m. EST on ESPN2 and ESPN3, with a triple-header headlined by a light heavyweight crossroads bout.
In the main event, former middleweight contender Edison Miranda (35-6, 30 KO) is back in the ring in a 10-round bout against late replacement opponent Isaac Chilemba (18-1-1, 9 KO). It's a good fight for Chilemba, a 24-year-old South African with some real potential, who is replacing Yordanis Despaigne in this fight, meant to be a rematch of a controversial FNF main event last year, after Despaigne pulled out about two weeks ago, following a loss in December to Cornelius White.
Miranda, 31, is still a pretty entertaining fighter who talks some good trash, but at light heavyweight he's small and doesn't have the same power he used to have as a middleweight. This was even a problem at super middleweight for the limited Colombian brawler. If Chilemba beats Miranda, it's a step forward. But if Chilemba isn't good enough to turn into a contender, Miranda could let us know tonight, win or lose.
Miranda vs Chilemba is set for 10 rounds.

On the undercard, a pair of lightweight prospects have been matched in an eight-rounder. Cuba's Rances Barthelemy (14-0, 11 KO) will face Hylon Williams Jr (15-0, 3 KO). Barthelemy, 25, isn't one of the hyped Cubans, but as always they get a lot of TV slots because they're inexpensive and have a backstory to talk about. Williams, 21, is a decent prospect but little more -- he has no punching power whatsoever, which will always limit him, and he's not an incredible stylist or anything, either. It's a win-and-come-back fight for both.
The middle bout on the card will be a heavyweight contest between Russia's Magomed Abdusalamov (12-0, 12 KO) and another Cuban, Pedro Rodriguez (8-0, 6 KO). Rodriguez, 31, has thus far beaten a handful of scrubs. Abdusalamov, 30, hasn't faced elite competition either, but he does have a win over Rich Power, whose name sounds better than his fighting looks.
Join us tonight for live coverage of all three bouts from Texas Station in Las Vegas.

Jesus, I lived right near Texas Station for awhile and they didn't get shit for boxing events
Now they get an FNF?
The last time I went there I had a friend whose dad worked in their movie theater and I got to see SWAT and the Freaky Friday remake.
SSreporters - February 3, 2012
They’ve been a player lately.
Scott Christ - February 3, 2012
It's like...the least remarkable of the Station casinos.
Right across from it is the Fiesta, where they had a damn good buffet.
I mean FNF rarely even goes to Vegas outside the strip for these kinds of cards. Literally two miles from that place is a Food 4 Less.
SSreporters - February 3, 2012
Not a bad start to this scrap
Matt Miller - February 3, 2012
Fast pace. Like how Barthelemy mixes up his punches.

Williams vs Barthelemy Round 1
Rances coming out stalking right away. Both guys have some hand speed to spare. Rances to the body, Williams to the body. good jab from Ranches. Rances to the body, then a right hand. Williams caught in the corner. Right to the body is mostly blocked by Williams. Barthelemy to the body, Williams with a counter hook upstairs. Barthelemy just staying right ont op of him, showing zero fear at all. Right hand by Williams, two back from Barthelemy. Williams starting to keep distance a bit better int he last 40 seconds or so. Williams with a lunging left, gets caught in return. Good right from Barthelemy.
Good first round, good pace.
Barthelemy 10-9

Williams getting in a little counter punching to keep it interesting, but Barth takes that on activity
Matt Miller - February 3, 2012
Barthelemey 10-9. Obviously premature after one round, but it seems like Williams is a talented guy who simply doesn’t have a power to keep Barthelemey off him.

Unlike the guys who fought on FNF season debut you can easily see both these guys are legit prospects

10-9, 20-18 Barthelemey. Williams is letting this turn into a shootout, and that is not going to end well for him.

Williams vs Barthelemy Round 2
Barthelemy back to staying right on top of Williams. Williams with some good counter shots, but he just can’t keep Barthelemy away enough. Rights to the body and head by Rances, he’s mixing up shots pretty well. Left hook by Williams, and then a really good uppercut, and another left hook. But now Barthelemy coming back with big shots! Williams throws four shots, none land. Right to the body by Barthelemy, partially blocked. Left hook Williams. BIG right by Barthelemy near the bell.
Damn good round. This is a hot little fight.
Barthelemy 10-9
Barthelemy 20-18
Both these guys are better than I thought they were, I believe. These dudes can fight.
Scott Christ - February 3, 2012
Williams vs Barthelemy Round 3
Barthelemy turning southpaw this round, pace slowing just a hair. He’s definitely not a southpaw, looks way clumsier, slower and goofier in the stance. Not a true switch hitter. More a Brian Roberts.
Switching back and he’s in better shape. Williams keeping space better this round. Williams with a lead right. Back to southpaw from Barthelemy. Atlas notes the lack of jab from Barthelemy, and he’s 100% right. Back orthodox. Barthelemy getting inside, now being warned for using his head. Back southpaw. Goofy left hand.
Williams 10-9

Williams vs Barthelemy Round 4
Barthelemy getting way too passive and arrogant. Dropping his left hand when in orthodox stance. Now back to southpaw. This shit is doing him no favors. I really don’t like the way Barthelemy is letting this fight get away from him. He had the right idea earlier. Either his stamina sucks or his brain does.
Barthelemy warned again for using his head. Now pawing. Barthelemy is a weird fighter. Iffy round — Barthelemy was mostly annoying, but Williams didn’t really take advantage as much as he could.
Williams 10-9
38-38
Scott Christ - February 3, 2012

I intend to blame the grunting. Barthelemy is letting Williams stay in this fight.

I know Yan and Leduan Barthelemy are Rances brothers. But does anybody know if there is any relation to Giorbis Barthelemy? A Junior Middleweight who fought Carlos Baldomir, Ernesto Ornales and other notable names in the late 90s and early 2000s before getting locked up. No real reason for wanting to know other than curiosity. I recall Giorbis being Cuban
Eugene Banks - February 3, 2012
Williams vs Barthelemy Round 5
Williams being pressed a bit more, but Barthelemy has stopped throwing quite as much as he was before. Williams doing more to duck down when Barthelemy is close, though. I really hate the way Barthelemy looks when he goes southpaw. It really does nothing for him.
Barthelemy with a left to the body. He seems to have lost a lot of zip on his punches. Good jab from Barthelemy. Williams misses a right hand. Slapping left to the body from Barthelemy, Caballero-style. Pick and peck round for Barthelemy, but he scored a bit more.
Barthelemy 10-9
Barthelemy 48-47
Scott Christ - February 3, 2012
Barthlemy is using the Vitali Klitschko/Celestino Caballero type style.
TheDemolitionDan - February 3, 2012 via iPhone app
10-9, 49-46 Barthelemey. I have him winning, but it’s not clear enough that he has any business hotdogging like this.

Boxanne got it right above.
Williams has skills, can box, good head movement. But the dude can’t bang.
Barthelemy round.
Matt Miller - February 3, 2012
Williams vs Barthelemy Round 6
Williams with a couple hooks, staying on the back foot and jabbing and circling, using his legs for distance. He really has no punching power at all. None.
Barthelemy has him on the ropes and now he’s letting his hands go in close. Uppercut lands. Williams gets out. Barthelemy having the clear better round here, IMO. Williams just can’t do enough. He doesn’t have enough tools in the box. He’s a good boxer with good speed and decent defense, but he’s lacking spark and of course the total lack of power is hurting badly.
Barthelemy 10-9
Barthelemy 58-56

Williams vs Barthelemy Round 7
Williams comes out to fight. Uppercut from Barthelemy! That stung him. Right hand lands. Williams is hurting. Another uppercut, this time a right, gets in. Left just misses. Those uppercuts are coming in consistently. Williams with a right, no effect. Left hook, no effect. This is not Hylon Williams’ game but he has few options here, and he’s trying to win this fight. That’s all you can ask.
Right hand, left hand from Rances. Barthelemy has discouraged him, bloodied his nose, and has him desperate. But bless Williams, he’s still fighting. Rances keeps stalking, though, and closes the round with a couple landed shots.
Barthelemy 10-9

Scott Christ - February 3, 2012
Williams vs Barthelemy Round 8
Williams still trying to come forward, but he really has no idea what exactly to do when he gets into range. He’s just not a guy who can lead action. Left to the body by Rances. Right to the body by Williams. Barthelemy back to southpaw. “The 2000 version,” Teddy? It’s 2012.
Left by Barthelemy. He’s closing this out in obnoxious fashion. I don’t at all like his showboating. He hasn’t been THAT impressive here. Calm down, stud. Right hand by Barthelemy. Barthelemy wins the round and the fight.
Barthelemy 10-9
Barthelemy 78-74
Scott Christ - February 3, 2012
Barthelemey 10-9, 79-73 same. That doesn’t do justice to Williams performance, but Barthelemey won clearly.

Well, the fatty is aggressive and has landed a couple right hands. Mago is in really good shape and he’s a lefty. Look, I’m fatter than Pedro Rodriguez, but watching him be a pro athlete is weird. I’m just a fat blogger.
But he keeps landing that right. He’s really confident. Mago is doing nothing of note. and doesn’t look comfortable yet. There’s a little shot from Mago.

Miranda showing some patience early, willing to counter punch. That’s different. Right hand from Chilemba. Right to the body from Miranda. Miranda with another right. Interesting round. Miranda with a good right, and he’s turning up the heat here in the second minute of the round. He really does look exceptionally relaxed. It’s early and all but this is about as good as I’ve ever seen Miranda look physically.
Right hand counter from Chilemba, but Miranda just comes right back at him. Chilemba isn’t doing enough offensively, too much of his focus is spent on keeping Miranda away from him. Jab to the body by Chilemba.

Good right from Chilemba. They’re tied up and brawling, and man, that cut is just pouring blood. Not holding up at all. That thing is nasty. And Chilemba is targeting it with his right hand and his hair when he gets tied up.
Miranda continues to stalk and throw his hands. Left hook from Miranda. Right hand up top, then Miranda strays a bit low on a left hook to the body. Uppercut from Chilemba. Chilemba keeping distance again. Right hand Miranda. Turning into a sloppy fight here.
Chilemba 10-9
38-38
Scott Christ - February 3, 2012
Teddy's scorecard is nuts
Matt Miller - February 3, 2012
did he really give the first two to Chilemba and the last two to Miranda, or have I drank too much rum?
Matt Miller - February 3, 2012
R4 Chilemba. He’s avoiding the kill shots well.
39-37 Miranda
And updated-1 pt from both of them for this round

Miranda vs Chilemba Round 5
Chilemba loses a point for rabbit punching…and so does Miranda. Well, how about that.
Right hand Chilemba. He’s figured Miranda out — getting in and out nicely, landing his shots and making Miranda look slow. Chilemba just misses on a counter hook that could have been big trouble. Miranda getting aggressive, but being picked apart now a little bit.
Chilemba 10-9
Chilemba 48-47

Chilemba 47-46
Scott Christ - February 3, 2012
Interesting ugly active fight. Chilemba getting smarter fast.
BoxAnne - February 3, 2012
Miranda 10-9 (9-8, I guess), 48-45 same. Very tough rounds to score, getting sloppier. I think Miranda nicked it at the end.

Double Technical
I don’t remember the last time that a Ref took points from both fighters in the same moment but I wonder how much more effective that is than giving another warning. It will just make for a 9-9,9-8 instead of a 10-10 or 10-9. It does not really send much of a message. Miranda could still bang but he has never been the same after Abraham got him in their rematch and Pavlik owned him.

Miranda vs Chilemba Round 6
Long right hand from Chilemba. He’s landing that thing better. Miranda giong to the body, but eats a chopping right up top in return. This is a close fight, tough to score. I just like the way Chilemba is countering and working his game plan here. Miranda is as always very tough and very game, and he’s in this at the least, but I think this is going Chilemba’s way right now.

It’s so sloppy I can’t figure out how was buzzed there.

The last 4 rounds could go several different ways, I’ll say that.
Bonkers - February 3, 2012
Also, somewhat surprised this fight hasn’t been stopped yet, with all that blood-and there they go. Doc looks at it and let’s it go.
The cut’s bothering Miranda-he keeps wiping at it.
Bonkers - February 3, 2012
Miranda vs Chilemba Round 7
Miranda drilled with a right hand. Now he’s letting it go. Miranda is getting increasingly frustrated. Uppercut from Chilemba. He’s hurting Miranda, I don’t care what faces Miranda makes. He’s a credible fighter at 175, Miranda, but not a “legit” fighter — he’s a good gatekeeper, and I think Chilemba’s starting to get past the gate here.
Good shot again from Chilemba. And referee is going to have the doc look at the cut. It’s pretty ugly. Doc lets it go, but that thing is just pouring blood — Joe says ‘spraying,’ which might be better. Miranda rolls away from a right hand.
Chilemba 10-9

66-65 Miranda,
but his cut is looking bad and the tide may have turned.
Matt Miller - February 3, 2012
I’ve Chilemba up 67-64. These last 4 rounds he’s been picking Miranda apart.

Dear Teddy
I can haz tie?
Matt Miller - February 3, 2012
I have been drinking for seven hours and listening to funk music. I’m just waiting and hoping that Miranda doesn’t win, otherwise I feel that Nathan Cleverly has found his next opponent.
Eoin_not_ian - February 3, 2012
Punches too hard for Clev
Scott Christ - February 3, 2012
I’m not watching, but surely Miranda’s middleweight power can’t translate to 175? Although the name Karpency makes Miranda seem like a legit threat.
Eoin_not_ian - February 3, 2012
He’s a better puncher than the guys Cleverly has been fighting, even at 175, where Miranda is just an above average puncher.
Scott Christ - February 3, 2012
I suppose. Cleverly has Murat and Bellew as his best wins. A good fighter, but I suspect that Warren matches him easily as a ‘Boxnation world champion’. Similar to Ricky Burns at Super Feather. (I like Burns but his ‘defences’ were a joke)
Eoin_not_ian - February 3, 2012
Miranda vs Chilemba Round 8
Chilemba was set to fight February 11 when he took this fight, so Teddy’s excuse of him taking this on short notice and getting tired doesn’t much hold up.
Chilemba really dominated this round, IMO. This is his fight.
Chilemba 10-9
Chilemba 77-73

R8 Chilemba 10-9
76-75 Shlemba, as Teddy has turned his name into.
Bonkers - February 3, 2012
So doesn't Teddy's scorecard mean he was taunting Twitter dude for having a lead for Miranda
Even as he himself had it a tie a couple rounds ago, while he was mocking him?
Matt Miller - February 3, 2012
Yeah he even said then that he had it even. Teddy really doesn’t like boxing fans at all. I don’t know a subtle way to say that. He does not like them or the fact that they have opinions.
Scott Christ - February 3, 2012
Did you not hear Scott, Teddy loves the fans.

Miranda vs Chilemba Round 9
Man that blood is just flying everywhere. Chilemba is just better than Miranda. That’s what most of this is amounting to. Miranda is staying in there though. Like I said on Twitter, he’d fight a bear if you signed him up, and he’d give it a go.
Chilemba 10-9

Teddy explaining how to be a cut man. That’s fun.
Jesus, Chilemba is fucking covered in Miranda’s blood on the left arm. That’s wild, and I won’t act like I don’t like it a little bit.
Chilemba winning another round, and Miranda goes for the KO but winds up cornered and beaten up a little bit.
Chilemba 10-9
Chielmba 97-91
Clear Chilemba win. IMO Miranda has no argument whatsoever.
Scott Christ - February 3, 2012
Chilemba presses his advantage carefully but steadily and wins the fight.

Bonkers - February 3, 2012
10-9 Chilemba, 95-93 same. Question is a) how many early rounds Miranda banked and b) if he nicked any of the later ones.
schraubd - February 3, 2012
I don’t think Miranda had much argument in the final five rounds.
Scott Christ - February 3, 2012
97-91 Chilemba. Thought Chilemba put on a boxing lesson, for the most part, Miranda would come in, eat a right hand, and hold.
TheDemolitionDan - February 3, 2012 via iPhone app
I gave Miranda 4 rounds
