Julio Cesar Chavez Jr was reportedly arrested for drunk driving in California on January 22, and has a court date set for March 16, according to RingTV.com. Top Rank has denied knowledge of the situation and hasn't made any real comment on the matter.
Chavez (44-0-1, 31 KO) faces Marco Antonio Rubio tonight with Chavez's WBC middleweight title on the line, and there are now even more questions about his preparation. He admitted to struggling to make weight for the fight, and obviously if he's being arrested for drunk driving at 4:38 in the morning two weeks before a fight, the concerns about his training seem to be pretty valid.

Will it have any effect on tonight's bout? Maybe. A lot of people already consider Rubio a very live underdog in this one, as the veteran knows his way around the ring and can punch, and Chavez has a history of not exactly training hard for every fight.
Our live coverage of the Chavez vs Rubio card begins with streaming video of the undercard and round-by-round results of the off-TV bouts. Join us tonight for what could be a very interesting evening of fights.

175 pounds 2 weeks ahead of time. Though I assume that was with some clothes on…maybe not. Never been arrested.
I wonder why this is just getting out now.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he took some dietetic to make weight like in one of his previous fights…

Wasn’t supposed to get out at all, is my guess. Rubio may have a better chance than previously thought.

I want Rubio to win and you know what… I think most Mexican fans would cheer for it.

Hope this guy loses. I don’t understand how you can take the trade so lightly and still be 44-0? Like this guy is a fat slob when he walks around, isn’t an athletic specimen, goes out drinking and chooses to drive like 2 weeks before a fight? What’s wrong with this guy?
He’s not ever going to be the best boxer ever, but he’s got good genetics, he’s a good boxer, and if he put his head in the game he’d have a good career. It’s just a shame that there are tonnes of people out there that would KILL to have his talent/connections.

HOW WEIRD IS LARRY MERCHANT???? He is really off his rocker.
RyanSexton - February 4, 2012
He is an asshole.
Boss Man - February 5, 2012
I like the man a lot, but today I felt he was REALLY slipping. I like his sarcastic condescending commentary and interviewing, his inability to make conversation, and his unparalleled non-sense.
But today, I really heard a man who wasn’t sure of what was going on.
RyanSexton - February 5, 2012
Now that’s truculent :)
Scott Christ - February 5, 2012
I thought ‘devastating’ was tonight’s word.
pakinpower - February 5, 2012
That too.
Scott Christ - February 5, 2012
